The annual Nokia Connection event, which has traditionally been a prelude to CommunicAsia, has always seen the Finnish phone giant unveil its latest range of cellular handsets. This year proved no different with a total of five new candy-bar phones announced, among them a 3G-enabled midrange model, two entry-level GSM handsets and two CDMA offerings.

To CNET Asia's surprise, this year's product announcements appear less impressive than previous Nokia Connection shows where the company would unveil its top-of-the-line handsets, sporting the latest cutting-edge technologies. The five phones announced at this launch are targeted chiefly at the entry- to mid-level crowd.

Fans wondering if Nokia is losing it edge can breathe easy. Over the past year, the phone manufacturer has rolled out more than 25 new mobiles ranging from fashion and enterprise to sports and multimedia. Many of the cellular offerings, which were recently launched or soon to be released, were also showcased at the event.
