Samsung @ CES '08: PC hardware

LAS VEGAS--One the most innovative PC peripheral offerings on display at Samsung CES booth has to be the SyncMaster 2263DX, a dual-screen LCD monitor. Aimed at those who want to better multitask when using the PC, the 2263DX comes with a 22-inch primary display for running the main applications, as well as an adjustable 7-inch LCD panel for secondary programs such as instant messaging. What's appealing about the 2263DX is its USB connectivity to the PC, which will facilitate multi-display environments.

Another product that caught our eye was the Digital Media Adapter. It allows you to connect the PC to a flat-panel TV using the Ethernet cable (via a router). In addition to displaying the PC content on the TV, the Digital Media Adapter can also be used to record TV programs, according to the Samsung rep at the display counter. It is unknown how this will be carried out, though.

Samsung has also introduced the Q1 Ultra Premium, the latest version of the company's UMPC with Intel 1.33GHz ULV Core Solo processor and 1GB DDR2 RAM. Expected to retail for about US$1,399, Samsung has confirmed that it will lower the prices of its current Q1 offerings to accommodate the new device.
