Cellphone-sized device for digitizing business cards

If you've ever spent more than a few days in Japan on business, you'll have gone through more business cards than wooden sushi chopsticks. Japanese are endlessly exchanging cards, and it's easy to accumulate a mountain of contacts. This digitizer cuts the mountain down to size and puts it in a handy mobile device.
The King Jim Pitrec DNH10 digital business card holder is much more compact than card management tools that rely on scanners. It has a small pop-up camera that images a card after you stick it in a slot; it can shoot up to eight cards in a row. You can view stored cards on the 3.5-inch LCD screen.
The 85g, 127mm-long device uses OCR software to digitize card contents, automatically detecting corporate and personal names.
An included 2GB microSD card can store 1,800 to 2,000 contacts, but a separate 16GB microSDHC card can store about 10,000. The info is searchable by date, name, and other variables.
King Jim, a Tokyo business product maker, plans to sell 30,000 Pitrecs annually. They go on sale in Japan next month for about US$300 apiece.
It's probably a worthwhile investment if you're a busy salaryman, since paper cards, like disposable chopsticks, won't disappear from Japan anytime soon.
