Canon unleashes new PowerShot and Ixus compacts

Canon's line of PowerShot and Ixus point-and-shoots have always been popular with consumers. This is not surprising, considering that the cameras are packed with features and offer decent picture quality for their prices. The company's latest range of compacts adopt backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS image sensors, which in turn offer users full-HD video capture and high-speed movie recording. One of the PowerShot shooters also has a GPS chip baked in to let users geotag their photos.

The Ixus 310 HS.
The new Ixus 310 HS retains the same 28mm F2.0 lens as the Ixus 300 HS, but the zoom range has been increased to 4.4x from 3.8x. Also noteworthy is the full touchscreen interface and manual exposure mode on the 310 HS.

The PowerShot SX230 HS and SX220 HS replace the SX210 IS. Both point-and-shoots have a 12-megapixel BSI image sensor, 14x optical zoom lens that extends from 28mm to 392mm, 3-inch LCD and full-HD movie recording function. The only difference between the two shooters is that the SX230 HS has an onboard GPS function while the SX220 HS doesn't.

Canon also unveiled two other Ixus compacts--the Ixus 220 HS and Ixus 115 HS. The duo have slim and stylish silhouettes to appeal to the trendy crowd. The former has a 24mm, 5x optical zoom lens while the latter sports a 28mm, 4x optical zoom lens. Scroll down for more details of the five point-and-shoots.
