IT training for teachers from 3G villages
Jan 18, 2007 17:21I wrote about 3G villages in the southern part of Indonesia's Sumatra island here last year. And now, there's an interesting progress: The teachers from Way Kanan, Lampung, were recently invited to Jakarta to attend a series of training on IT.
PT Microsoft Indonesia and Qualcomm Incorporated hosted the program to train trainers, aimed at teachers from five high schools in Way Kanan, Lampung.
The training program is a continuation of the previous one held in July 2006. The second phase of this exercise, hosted from January 15-19, was held at several locations, including Microsoft Indonesian office.
The materials given were aimed at further enhancing and exploring the use of information technology for teaching learning activities at schools.
In addition to attending the training program, the teachers will also visit Sampoerna Telecom Indonesia office, Jayawisata 2 Tourism School, International Data Center (IDC) Indonesia office and newsportal Detik.com's headquarter.
The program, initiated by the Government together with Qualcomm through its Wireless Reach initiative, introduced CDMA450 wireless technology as well as 3G-based 1xEV-DO into Way Kanan, giving the area access to broadband wireless voice and data services.
The cornerstone of the program is the establishment of computer laboratories with Internet access in five high schools in Way Kanan: Buay Bahuga; Negeri Besar; Negara Batin; Rebang Tangkas; and Pakuan Ratu.
"We believe access to telecommunications and information technology can improve the socio-economic conditions of underserved communities," said Harry K Nugraha, country manager for Qualcomm Indonesia.
Microsoft Indonesia supports the program by providing in-depth information on the background of technology formation, more comprehensive training programs on the basics of computer usage and the Internet, and an introduction to recent software programs.
"Microsoft highly supports the initiative as it is in line with our long-term program, the Partners in Learning program, to support the Government in enhancing the education sector," said Tony Chen, president director at Microsoft Indonesia.
Skillful teachers will accelerate the student's capability in exploring IT to reach their own goals. And it means the infrastructure provided for them will not be in vain.

Everyone wants to earn more money, get a better job, increase their income. The economic climate may be bad but it's definitley still possible to achieve
this in a job, especially with IT jobs. IT Training isn't necessarily the only answer. There are other ways to study and learn new technology to help you
make the big money. Job opportunites will be there and reading the right ebooks will help.

David
