Nokia alleges that Apple iPhone violates 10 different patents
Oct 25, 2009 23:47Looks like the two biggest mobile giants are going to battle it out in the open. Now, that's very interesting since Nokia has now filed a patent lawsuit against Apple. The number of claims that the Finn has pitted against the Cupertino company for violations is more than 10 different patents that the former owns! Most of the patent violations seem to revolve around the Wi-Fi standards, UMTS and GSM stuff.
That's very interesting since most of the geeks out there know how protective Apple is over its own intellectual property. In fact, it's bullied quick a number of companies and folks over such violations!
The lawsuit has been filed by Nokia in the Federal District Court of Delaware. Nokia wants to, in its own words, expose Apple for "attempting to get a free ride on the back of Nokia's innovation". That's very interesting, too.
Nokia has also alleged that the infringements have existed in each and every iPhone model since the first version hit the markets way back in mid-2007. But that also brings about doubts in our minds as to why Nokia did not raise any objection till now against Apple, though it was such a huge competitor. It seems Nokia has invested more than US$60 billion into R&D (including the exclusive R&D hub based here in Bangalore, India) for the allegedly infringement and other patented technologies. So it's payback time.
The legitimacy and truth of these infringement accusations from Nokia mobile phones are widely questionable. Let's wait for the trials to begin when the dirty linen will be out in the open!
