Windows 7 to hit the stands by December 2009!!

A few days back we had the release of Windows 7 Release Candidate 1 for the mass public. Now, we have fresh indication from Microsoft that Windows 7 is expected to be released in December this year since MS claims that Win 7 development is "on track". Bill Veghte, who is a senior VP for Microsoft's Windows Business Notes division, has said in a recent interview that Microsoft Windows 7 is expected it to hit shelves during the holiday season of 2009 itself!!.

One thing most users want and are anticipating is that Windows 7 aims to cover up all the loopholes and glitches that became a frequent part of the Vista package. It was actually two years back that Vista was officially launched in the market, but it seems to have had a very dismal performance.

I, for one, always attributed Windows Vista to Windows Millennium that was launched in 2000 which was such a big failure--later, we had Windows XP that became a quick hit. In a similar manner, as if to say that history repeats itself, Vista may have been a failure but we will have a better OS in Win 7.

There's a lot of industry pressure and anticipation for Microsoft to release Windows 7 much earlier than the actual anticipated date of July 2010. On the contrary, we see on many blogs that Microsoft is taking a lot of care by not doing a rushed job this time--after the bad experience with Vista.

The Release Candidate 1 of Windows 7 was made available on May 5 and will expire in July 2010. It's obvious that Microsoft will roll out a second Release Candidate before the final release in December, and it's going to be packed with even more features.

So would you folks pick up a Windows 7 for Christmas if it's on shelves?

The Windows 7 RC1 does indeed run faster than Vista, at least on our ageing HP notebooks. Gone were the constant disk accesses that Vista is famous for. We'd be very cautious about getting the final product, however, after getting sucked in by all the hype surrounding Vista when it was released a few years ago.

We'll be adopting a wait and see attitude for now. Rumour has it that Win7 is no where as fast as XP and only marginally so compared to Vista.

Yup - but Win XP was much slower than Win98 when it was launched too.

I've been using Windows 7 for couple of days. It feels more like an optimised version of Vista, than a new OS. I think the performance could have been patched onto Vista. I probably want bother buying this, unless I get a new PC or borrow a friend's copy.

I have yet to try it but I reckon it will be better than Windows Vista as the latter had seemingly set the lowest point in Microsoft's well-established OS "portfolio", going by the sheer number of user complaints coupled with disgruntled competitors (Internet Explorer integration), Bill Gates stepping down maybe?

Windows 7 can't be worse. Atleast I hope so. :P
