The world's cheapest car, the Nano, is all set to roll out by end 2010

The Nano, which happens to be the world's cheapest car, is all set to roll out of the Tata Group's Rs2,000 crore (US$3.86 billion) Sanand plant in Gujarat, India, by the end of 2010. It has been reported that work is on full swing at the project site in Sanand, which is about 45km away from Ahmedabad, Gujurat's capital city.

From the time Tata announced shifting the Nano project site from West Bengal, India, in early October 2008, following the campaign launched by Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress against the setting up of the small car project at Singur, it finally zeroed in on Gujarat. This was after evaluating the possibility of setting up the plant for the small car in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The Narendra Modi Government allocated 1,100 acres of land in Sanand, close to national highway No. 8 which goes to the Kandla, Mundhra and Dholera ports. The Nano plant in Sanand is expected to produce 250,000 cars per annum.

The Nano is agressively set to be priced at Rs100,000 (US$2,500) per car. Now that's going to be cheaper than any other vehicle in the market now or in the near future. Most Indians are eagerly anticipating a formal launch date and the bookings to open up.

If given a chance, would you take home a Nano? Do share your thoughts here. As for me, I definitely would :)

I thought the original price was slightly over $1000 per car?

I'd personally take a Nano ragardless. It's seems like a nice car not to mention afforable. I think price factor and the fact it does not look cheap what makes it so appealing for so many people.

$1000 is just too less - that's the price for most two-wheelers here in India.

Tata has long term plans of exporting Nano too - so I am very sure it will have all the necessary clearances before it's launch.
