Apple's "It's Only Rock and Roll" event recap
Sep 10, 2009 02:15Spoiler: No tablet or Netbook... no new designs but refreshed specs and some additional features.
1. iPhone 3.1
- Genius for the App Store--will suggest apps like the Genius feature for creating playlists in iTunes.
- Ringtones can now be purchased through the iTunes store at US$1.29 each, 30,000 ringtones available now.
- (I just sent my iPhone off to be replaced... won't get to try this for another week.)
2. iTunes 9 (not yet up as of writing this entry)
- Genius Mixes--Endless Genius playlist that goes on and on and on.
- Improved syncing with addition of syncing songs by artist and genre and photos by events rather than just albums.
- Ability to arrange app pages/screen layout from iTunes (finally!!!).
- Home Sharing--Copy and share content between up to five computers.
- Redesigned store with cleaner layout.
- iTunes LP--All the goodies you used to get when making a physical purchase of music media (lyrics, artwork, photos, videos, "inserts", etc...).
- Send "gift" purchases directly to Facebook/Twitter.
- iTunes extras--the stuff you used to get with a DVD purchase but did not get with an iTunes download (commentary, deleted scenes, interactive material, etc...).
3. iPod touch
- New games announced and demoed for the iPod touch.
- Price dropped to US$199 for the 8GB model.
- US$299 for 32GB.
- US$399 for 64GB.
- Open GL 2.0.
- 32GB and 64GB getting a 50 percent speed bump.
- Looks the same as current generation of touches.
4. iPod classic
- Thinner.
- Capacity increased to 160GB for same US$249 price.
5. iPod shuffle
- 2GB down to US$59
- 4GB at US$79.
- Pink, green, blue, silver and black.
6. iPod nano
- 8GB at US$149
- 16GB at US$179
- Integrated video camera + mic (!!!)
- integrated speaker.
- Pedometer.
- Genius Mix.
- Built-in FM radio (receiver).
No tablet. I guess it was only rock and roll...
