Out with the old and in with the new. Hello to iPhone 3GS in Thailand
Aug 10, 2009 23:50Thais waiting for a "legitimate" iPhone 3GS from True Move need to wait just a bit longer as August 28 approaches. Those interested in getting one can sign up and reserve their 3GS at the True Move Web site. Anyone still interested in picking up a regular ol' 3G should head out to a nearby True Move ahop asap as these will be replaced by the 3GS models and current stock of 3G phones won't last.
Then again, why would you want a 3G when a 3GS can be had for the same price range?
A 16GB 3GS will cost 24,500 baht + VAT, while a 32GB 3GS will go for 28,500 baht + VAT. That's double the capacity of the 3G with a few more goodies added to the hardware package and promotional incentives. Still available are the 12- and 24-month subscriptions which spread out the cost of the phone over your contract period.
True Move's 3G service over its 2,100MHz allocation currently covers downtown Bangkok and the real use service speed is on par with AIS' offering in Chiang Mai when considering coverage consistency and average speed. No official tests were conducted by myself, however. There is a bit of congestion after working hours, but that is pretty much the same story. For the next five, I get to see how True Move's coverage is on the beaches of Hua Hin and Cha-am.

I am planning to buy the new iPhone 3GS with True Move, but first I would like to sell my current iPhone 3G. Where do I need to go to find buyers and what price should be reasonable in today's market?

Hi AkashNASA,
If you're in Thailand, then just head over to MBK and there are dozens of shops willing to take on your 3G. You may be able to get a better price online through sites like ebay as the 3G from Thailand comes unlocked and will never become locked if you upgrade to later versions of the OS, unlike jailbreaked/unlocked iPhones which run the risk of having jailbreak/unlock broken with each update.
