AIS sells Thailand's first Android phone
Jun 8, 2009 15:19Not quite making the local headlines like True Move did with the release of the iPhone 3G on its network, AIS has started selling the HTC Magic running on Android. Trend-savvy Thais have yet to target this OS, but techheads are sure to be excited. The Magic is exclusive to AIS and comes with six months' worth of unlimited data over EDGE and free 250MB of data over 3G. You also get an additional 250 baht discount to your monthly phone bill for a 12-month period.
AIS Serenade-level subscribers get an additional 1,000 baht rebate at the time of purchase.
Well, with all good things, there comes a bad. Mainly, it's the 25,900 baht selling price. Open source is supposed to make phones cheaper, but this comes in slightly higher than the iPhone which now starts at 23,275 baht from True Move. Price point aside, if you're lucky enough to be in its 3G coverage area, this phone is sure to make you think twice before you go out to a True Move shop to pick up an iPhone.
More information on the HTC Magic can be found here. Information on AIS' 3G products and services can be found at its Web site.
