Skype comes to the iPhone

Today is the day that an official Skype app comes to Apple's App Store. Previously, you would have to use third-party software like Fring to get connected to Skype. Not only is this a step forward for Skype, it brings the iPhone now as another item to add to the list of "haves" over Symbian-based competitors such as the Nokia 5800.

However, you must be connected to a wireless hotspot to make calls.

I can't really say how well this works because the app kept on crashing right after it loaded, but I'm definitely excited that it's finally arrived. I think it may have something to do with some of the other apps I recently installed which have been making my iPhone behave strangely.

This Skype app, coupled with the new iPhone 3.0 OS, should make things interesting in the months to come as Palm gets ready to let loose its new OS and the Pre.
