DTAC makes room for True Move

Hot on the heels of the recent True Move RFID SIM Card announcement, CAT has recently made public its agreement with DTAC to clear the way on the 800MHz to allow True Move to develop its 3G services. Currently, there are two companies with the rights to use Thailand's airwaves, CAT and TOT. Mobile operators such as DTAC, HUTCH, True Move and GSM Advance make use of these airwaves through CAT or TOT's concessions.

True Move implementing RFID SIM cards

True Move CEO Supachai Chearavanont announced that True Move would be selling its SIM cards with RFID next Friday. This will allow its users to pay for services and goods utilizing its True Money service. Employees of parent company True Corp, which I assume have all been issued these SIM cards, will also be using these cards as security passes to enter its building.

Thailand's True Visions touts TiVo-like technology

Weeks after press releases and adverts, Thailand's mega CaTV/Sat TV service provider True Visions UBC is looking to gets its subscribers to turn in their old settop boxes for their new PVRs. Subscribers get back their equipment withholding fee (approximately 2,500 baht) and have to shell out 14,990 baht to own their own settop PVR (personal video recorder) a.k.a. DVR.

The 3G stooges--3G rollout at its worst!

As the countdown to Thailand's first 3G GSM network winds down, yours truly was (finally) extended an official invite for the unveiling this coming May 6. Unfortunately, after a lengthy call with one of its representatives and a call center staff today, I could hardly keep the disappointment (or sarcasm) out of my voice. This makes T-Mobile's announcement of a 3G voice-only rollout in NY sound good.

Firstly, this is a limited deployment. Ok, we knew this ahead of time and this was not unexpected. The company did use the word "rollout", so it'll take some time to completely blanket the nation. But here is how the calls went.
