Sinobytes--the CNET China tech blog--has landed
Sep 6, 2009 17:15With some trepidation, I am proud to have been handed the reigns of CNET's China tech blog; and with a new blogger comes a new moniker: Sinobytes.
The previous writer, Ryan McLaughlin with his Tech Dynasty, had became so overwhelmed with his successful Web company--not to mention having more Web side projects than a Chinese banquet has dishes--that he had to call it quits and appoint a successor. I'm humbled and honored to have been given the chance, and buoyed by the warm welcome from fellow CNET Asia bloggers.
Regular readers of Ryan's Tech Dynasty will be pleased to find him still in action on Twitter (as @thehumanaught) and at his personal blog. If you'd like to get to know your new blogger better as well, I'm on Twitter as @SirSteven.
On newly launched Sinobytes then, we'll continue to bring you insights, news and heat-seeking missives from the world of Web and technology in mainland China. I'd like to throw into the mix monthly profiles of interesting people--of all nationalities--working in the Chinese tech- and Webosphere, more coverage of trends on Chinese Web sites and startups, and offer even more insights into how China's overwhelmingly young-ish Netizens are using the Internet.
Needless to say, there will also be coverage of global issues affecting the Chinese tech world, as well as the increasing impact that Chinese companies are having overseas. In just the past few days, Google's China chief, Taiwan-born Kai-Fu Lee quit Google in order to concentrate on nurturing Web startups in China; more details emerged on the upcoming official launch of Apple's iPhone in China, although Apple's App Store remains a technical and legal stumbling block; and next month Microsoft will launch its new OS, dubbed "7", but can it avoid rampant piracy of its software in China with its new OS?
Sinobytes, of course, is always open to debate, so please hit up the comments--using Facebook Connect or your CNET Asia login--to add your voice to the discussion.

Can I say "welcome" with the door closing behind me? ;-) Regardless, welcome Steven, and am looking forward with much anticipation to reading what you come up with on Sinobytes!
