A mifi little wonder

Over the last few week, I have been testing the M1 Mifi 2353 which was sent to me a few days before its launch. It's the latest Wi-Fi wireless router which allows you to create your very own hotspot and network with multiple laptops and smartphones via Wi-Fi and connects them to the Internet via 3G cellular network.

This little gadget is approximately the size of half a pack of cards, relatively lightweight, and requires only one full charge for continuous one-week usage. It was very easy to set up. I just plugged the device into my computer and the installation process started immediately. It took about 5 minutes to install the device and it was ready for use.

Novatel Wireless MiFi, the MiFi 2352 from M1.

This little device offers 7.2Mbps of download speed and 5.76Mbp of uplink speed. It is currently retailing at S$68 with a S$51.36 monthly fee and two-year contract (or S$0 for the device and S$69.30 monthly), which is a great bargain. But when I tried to multitask by visiting several Web sites on two different browsers (Firefox and Safari), the surfing speed started to slow down. It also took quite a while for me to access my Facebook account.

Basically, the Mifi 2353 is a handy device for people who need Internet on-the-go. What's more, you can also send SMSes via the Mifi 2353 from your computer. However, I am not sure if there are additional charges levied for SMSes sent and received through the Mifi.

If you are interested, you can check out M1's Web site for more information. I will miss the Mifi 2353 when it's time to return it to M1.
