Wefew.net, the latest designer marketplace
May 7, 2009 15:31Like the recent Aware saga, citing Dr "Feminist Mentor" Thio Su Mien, I have been monitoring this new marketplace Wefew.net for the last couple of months.
It's a new marketplace which is slightly different from the rest that have jumped on the bandwagen. WeFew is a marketplace for "designers". Well, mainly Independent Designers all around the world. It is also an online community for anyone who supports the works of independent designers.
I've signed up as a user, but as an independent designer I have yet to subscribe as a seller. This is because I was put off by the tedious steps required to register as a seller. Not that I should be too bothered by this because what makes WeFew different is that it has curators who curate every application that they receive from a seller. This is to maintain the standard of independent designer goods.
Interestingly, WeFew was set up by an American (correction from previous mention of Australian) lady who got the support of the Creative Community Singapore via the Creative Business Fund. How lucky!
My favorite items of the week from WeFew are:

Hi Suzanna,
This is Autumn, the founder of WeFew. Thanks for your post. It's great that you see the potential of WeFew and are keen to support independent design from Singapore and beyond.
You are right - there are many marketplace platforms that have popped up recently. Which is why we are very proud of our curatorial process. It is our vision that this will oversee the quality of the products on offer and therefore give buyers added confidence in their online purchases.
We are of course open to any feedback regarding the application process - and we do look forward to receiving your application soon!
Autumn
PS - I'm American, not Australian. :)
