Yahoo Purple Hunt Pinoy statement tees

Just got word via Janette Toral in Facebook that Yahoo is going to release Pinoy-themed statement tees for its Yahoo Purple Hunt campaign... and since I'm a big fan of statement tees (and since they're a hot trend in Philippine pop culture now), I thought I'd share some of the tees it has pre-released online.

Yahoo Purple Hunt Tees

Not entirely sure it's legit, but who cares? They're interesting enough and capture the essence of Pinoy pop culture humor.

I don't know about you, but I want one of those! =D

That is such a cool shirt! Not that I have any idea what the words mean.

TARUGOMAN says...
Haha hey Hillary, here let me enlighten you.

The shirt on the left is just a bunch of mostly Pinoy or Filipino exclamations of glee and enthusiasm. 'Apir' is actually slang for 'Give me five!' or 'high five!' While 'musta' is a shortened 'kumusta' or 'How are you?'

'Ayuz' or 'Ayos' is literally 'alright' or 'ok' and 'stig' is a shortened 'astig' which is an exclamation for something cool. And in that same breath can be pronounced with a quick, bright cheer like 'COOL!' or a slow groove like 'cooooool'

The shirt on the right is a simulation of a chat between well-known characters in Jose Rizal's (our national hero) revolutionary novel, 'Noli Me Tangere', or 'Touch me not'. Sisa is one of the characters that goes insane with grief because she could not find her children, Crispin and Basilio.

When Sisa says 'mga anak ko!' (My children!) that's when she starts losing it... Crispin and Basilio going idle in YM. Lol.

It's quite a phenomenon nowadays in the Philippines, and just to give another example, I've seen tshirts of Jose Rizal, our national hero, wearing aviator shades. It's really bringing together our nationalistic roots with a more contemporary setting.

A bit far-fetched but the shirts really do hit their mark when it comes to Pinoy pop culture.
