Pinoy big brand makes a wrong move?
Mar 21, 2007 12:55KissNewMedia.com wrote a review about a new Web site tailored for US mobile phone users, NoypiTunes.com. Apparently, the iTunes part of the name and logo are quite similar to the Apple version and, as pointed out by the reviewer, could spell a possible lawsuit for the owner of the Web site, which happens to be the biggest instant messenger-to-mobile company in the Philippines, Chikka.com.
Apparently a maligned individual posted a comment on the review, which read like so:
Posted by Mark on March 7, 2007
Dear KissNewMedia,
Be careful of what you're writing. NOYPITUNES is far from the brand iTunes. Noypi is slang for Pinoy. It's like saying pinoytunes. iTunes sells MP3s and NOYPITUNES sells ringtones for Pinoys/Filipinos. As for the record, NOYPITUNES is a registered brand in the US and they passed all the legal requirements.
Apparently, according to an inside source (and based on IP tracking), the comment posted above came from the Chikka.com office. And because of the tone of his reply, it seemed more threatening in nature than a simple reply or comment.
I don't know about you, but Yugatech.com wrote about the incident, and I'm glad there are still folks who value bloggers' opinions. And if a big brand like that can't handle a little criticism, how can they expect to be at the top?
