The Fulgurator: Inserting spam into your photos
Jun 28, 2008 10:28There's junk mail, email spam, Web spam, and now, there's a way for spammers to insert spam into the photos you take during your holidays. Take a look at the Fulgurator here.
The Fulgurator is a device which detects the flash from your camera, and then uses its own flash to project an image on the object you're capturing, resulting in spam on your photos. Like this one, where the words are projected onto a black laptop bag:
Now, imagine adverts projected on the Taj Mahal, Stonehenge, the Empire State Building, and you get the drift.
Considering the lengths people go to in order to pump spam into your email box, this will almost be a certainty once a low-cost prototype comes into production. It'll probably mean extra costs for caretakers of tourist sites to cater for electronics scanners to seek and destroy these pesky devices.
Well, welcome to the Max Headroom world. The true 21st century is unfolding a decade late.

some advertisers often take greater lengths to promote their business, but personal/public "intrusion" warrants a criminal offense, i hope that thru legislation governments include actions like this to be penalised. take the explosion of 'youtube' and camera-enabled gadgets, plus the miniaturization of devices, which literally gives ordinary people the access to anybody's part of their life/personal stuff
