Singapore may be able to copy British framework for Blanket License for downloading
Jun 27, 2008 12:24While I rail alone in Singapore about a blanket licensing scheme where a small fee paid per Internet subscriber will entitle him to download legally anything he wants, the UK Government has allegedly threatened both ISP and content owners with legislation and brought them to the negotiating table.
See the article here.
Now, smart guys from all concerned parties will talk about this and try to hammer out something meaningful. Even if efforts in the UK do not come to any fruition, we can learn something from this.
Anything except now, the limbo we're all in where people are sometimes forced to download content illegally because of lousy distribution, and in any case with a big fat pipe, shouldn't we hammer out a legal download scheme or something already?
ISPs are still selling fat, fat pipes, earning S$100 per subscriber, but without legal downloads of content, most people say WTF for??
C'mon, give an email to your friendly MP, ask him to read this article, and follow what's going on in the UK.
