Christmas lights... LEDs lead the way..
Dec 9, 2008 08:45
The time to buy new that new string of Christmas lights is here again. The next generation of lights is here. What next Gen of lights? LEDs of course! LED lights in the previous years have been slightly expensive, making them rather prohibitive to buy for the relatively short period of use. Why LED lights?
This year LED lights are in abundance and are relatively "competitively priced"--they only cost less than twice of their incandescent cousins. LEDs are brighter, white LEDs are whiter, blue LEDs bluer, red LEDs redder... They basically produce the color they advertise, without the hint of yellow incandescence. White LEDs are particularly beautiful. I've got a blue LED pictured above.
The normal incandescent lights just don't make the cut when compared. Their colors are pale in comparison with the LED colors. The color of the emitted light depends on the composition and condition of the semiconducting material used. See wiki on LEDs and materials used.
Besides that, enviroment-wise, LEDs save electricity! Be green, save elctricity. Don't think of only your home using a string of lights, think of everyone stringing up lights for Christmas, and do your bit by stiringing up lights which eat up less electrons!
Since LED lights last a real long time as compared with normal bulbs, you can probably rest assured that this year's Christmas light may as well be Christmas lights for years to come! No more throwing away your normal string of bulbs just because a few bulbs have blown. LEDs just go on and on like an Energizer bunny.
And of course, LED lights are just plain brighter, and any self-respecting geek would very much rather explain to this Christmas dinner guests, how special his string of Christmas lights are as in comparison to last years lights.!!
Have fun.. Merry Christmas!!
