Taking technology to the extremes
Oct 3, 2009 11:37Whether you're a gadget freak or not, you will be fascinated by gadgets that can do this and that. Like during my recently concluded Techtutor seminar, there was a portion where I showed upcoming technology gadgets that will shape the way people look at education--the audience were simply awed by the possibilities.
Cameras with projectors, watches with Internet access, dualscreen eBooks, wearable PCs, and more. The more sophisticated it becomes, the more people like it.
I, too, am fascinated by cool gadgets, but not this concept gadget I saw on the Web called Pomegranate (http://pomegranatephone.com/). It is supposed to be an all-in-one phone, and when I say all-in-one, I really mean all-in-one.

With this phone, you can email, browse the Web, do GPS navigation, use the camera, and listen to MP3 music. But that's not all, it can do more--a lot more. The phone is also equipped with a global voice translator. Say something in your own native tongue and it can convert this to the language of your choice and speak it out--a gadget that will make translators obsolete. The phone has a built-in projector as well that can play presentations and videos.
The next part of the video makes me wonder if this phone is for real. The video claims that the phone is also a coffee brewer. The phone comes with a slot for brew pockets and also has a holder that allows you to get some water. The phone will brew the coffee and you will get an instant coffee drink.
The phone also comes with a built-in shaver. The video shows a guy shaving his mustache while talking with someone on the phone and a lady shaving her leg hair at the office. The phone even packs a built-in harmonica that allows the user to play his/her own music.
Now, why would I use a phone to play the harmonica when this can be used as a shaver? Or why would I use this phone as a phone when this phone is being used to make coffee and to shave someone's body hair? Eeewww.
I find this video a bit odd since it attempts to bring everything into one single gadget and yet compromises on the hygiene issues.
The site was made to attract people to visit the site to promote some sort of a real estate business, I think. A good strategy? I doubt it very much.
God bless us all!
