Expiry dates of cell phone loads extended
Jul 15, 2009 17:13Finally, the telecommunication providers have budged to pressure after agreeing to extend the expiry dates of cell phone loads. The Philippine Senate is currently investigating various issues surrounding the mobile phone business, some of which concern the vanishing of loads, spam texting, unregistered SIM cards, dropped calls, taxes, and others.
Starting July 23, sending of spam text will be prohibited. That's a good start.
The new expiration table are as follows:
- 10 pesos--three days
- 10 to 50 pesos--15 days
- 50 to 100 pesos--30 days
- 100 to 150 pesos--45 days
- 150 to 250 pesos--60 days
- 250 to 300 pesos--75 days
- 300 pesos up--120 days
Now, what can I say but that it's better than nothing. I still maintain that customers should be given the chance to regain their credits even after the stated expiration date. Simply because I already bought it, it's mine and nobody should dictate how and when I should use my mobile credits.
I would have gone for the "no expiration" stand, but I am giving the telecommunications providers the benefit of the doubt. That is why I am saying that if my load expires, and I loaded up new credits, my previous load should be given back to me.
Anyway, you win some, you lose some. The discussion has still a long way to go. Stay tuned.
God bless us all!

Spam text is a nuisance and it should be banned entirely. Some countries maintain a phone database where spammers would be prosecuted if they text or call those numbers in the database. Anyone can put their phone numbers into this database if they don't want to be disturbed. Not sure if the Philippines has one yet but the system seems to work in other countries.
