Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Tiger Woods make sports fans flock to the Web

The Internet was flooded with search related to Farrah Fawcett, Ed Mcmahon and Michael Jackson, three pillars of the entertainment industry passing away. To date, the death of MJ is still generating a lot of traffic due to his memorial. 1.6 million have registered to get a free ticket to view his remains. Only 17,500 tickets will be given. But next to the deaths of entertainment celebs, sports has become the next most-accessed content on the Web due to two events. One is the Wimbledon tournament, the other is the recent victory of Tiger Woods at the AT&T National golf tournament.

Roger Federer beat Andy Roddick in the Wimbledon final with a score of 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14. The game was played for 4 hours 18 minutes. The victory gave Federer his sixth Wimbledon title and his 15th Grand Slam title.

In the ladies division, Serena Williams won the Wimbledon women's singles title for a third time by beating sister Venus Williams 7–6, 6–2. The victory gave Serena her 11th Grand Slam title, one win away from legendary tennis star Billie Jean King's Grand Slam total.

Lastly, Tiger Woods again showed the world why he is the number one golfer (and the most paid athlete) by winning the AT&T National by one stroke. Woods rolled a 20ft birdie putt at the par 5 16th. Woods defeated upcoming star Anthony Kim and prevented the late surge from Hunter Mahan.

The sporting event has been a popular search for Netizens due to its real-world popularity. Just like the entertainment industry, sport fans also follow their idols wherever they go and the Internet is a great way to keep them up to date.

Congratulations to all the winners.

God bless us all!
