Philippines called "Nation of Servants" by writer
Mar 29, 2009 06:29Due to Philippines claim over the Spratly Islands which China also claims, a Chinese writer by the name of Chip Tsao published a story in the HK Magazine of the Asia City Publishing Group, calling the Philippines a "nation of servants".
Here is the article by Chip in HK Magazine:
The War at Home
By Chip Tsao
The Russians sank a Hong Kong freighter last month, killing the seven Chinese seamen onboard. We can live with that-—Lenin and Stalin were once the ideological mentors of all Chinese people. The Japanese planted a flag on Diàoyú Island. That's no big problem-—we Hong Kong Chinese love Japanese cartoons, Hello Kitty, and shopping in Shinjuku, let alone our round-the-clock obsession with karaoke.
But hold on-—even the Filipinos? Manila has just claimed sovereignty over the scattered rocks in the South China Sea called the Spratly Islands, complete with a blatant threat from its congress to send gunboats to the South China Sea to defend the islands from China if necessary. This is beyond reproach. The reason: There are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as HK$3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong. As a nation of servants, you don't flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter.
As a patriotic Chinese man, the news has made my blood boil. I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, hung a map on the wall, and gave her a harsh lecture. I sternly warned her that if she wants her wages increased next year, she had better tell everyone of her compatriots in Statue Square on Sunday that the entirety of the Spratly Islands belongs to China.

Grimly, I told her that if war breaks out between the Philippines and China, I would have to end her employment and send her straight home, because I would not risk the crime of treason for sponsoring an enemy of the state by paying her to wash my toilet and clean my windows 16 hours a day. With that money, she would pay taxes to her Government, and they would fund a navy to invade our motherland and deeply hurt my feelings.
Oh yes. The Government of the Philippines would certainly be wrong if they think we Chinese are prepared to swallow their insult and sit back and lose a Falkland Islands War in the Far East. They may have Barack Obama and the hawkish American military behind them, but we have a hostage in each of our homes in the Mid-Levels or higher. Some of my friends told me they have already declared a state of emergency at home. Their maids have been made to shout 'China, Madam/Sir' loudly whenever they hear the word "Spratly". They say the indoctrination is working as wonderfully as when we used to shout, "Long live Chairman Mao!" at the sight of a portrait of our Great Leader during the Cultural Revolution. I’m not sure if that's going a bit too far, at least for the time being.
We Filipinos are peace-loving people and we don't allow our emotions to get the better of things. Most of all, we have too much class that we will not stoop down the level of Chip Tsao.
The day will come that all of us will become servants to the one and only true master, our Lord Jesus Christ.
God bless us all!

"Nice" story. Did the columnist follow up the browbeating of his Filipina "domestic assistant" by burning her with an iron or throwing her down the stairs as many fellow employers in HK, Singapore and Malaysia like to do?
Mar 29, 2009 07:14
Before I start, let me say that I am not indicting or impeaching the character of all chinese people. There are a lot of Chinese people living and making their living here in the Philippines. Even if these people hire Filipinos to work for them, it still doesnt change the fact that they are here in the Philippines and need Filipinos to make their living.
As a patriotic Filipina, Tsao's article has also made my blood boil. How could a person n his status writes such article without even coolly and intellectually analyzing the rationale? Tsk. Clearly, this writer forgot to use his brain when he wrote that article. It was a very irresponsible and baseless article that only a moron will have the audacity to write.
Words mean things- big things. This is one of those core assumption- kind of common-sense principle that Tsao took for granted when he wrote the article. The Philippines is not a slave and China is not and will never be our master. Both countries mutually benefit with each other’s potential and possessions.
I won’t stoop tsao’s name-calling and ad-hominems attack. Maybe the man has an overdosed of milk containing high level of melamine (OOPZ) or perhaps he’s so infuriated by the ineffectiveness of all his china made electronics that he resorted to berating the A class standard of the Filipino maids. Tsao should be ashamed of himself. Compared to him, his maid who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, is far more intelligent and useful than he is. The citizen benefits more on Louisa’s skills than Tsao’s rooting way of thinking.
How dare you Cheap Tsao.

That bastard guy who's 100% racist and a quack talker who feels that he's better than others will soon reap what he had sown for. He thinks all Filipinos are servants. There would be a time that he's pocket will be emptied and do the same thing to clean up his own crap.
It seems, he's not a human being and he doesn't respect the work of other of people. Only an animal could treat harshly a person who doesn't do harsh to him.
He's very unprofessional and unethical. He's definitely a crap in his own country!
If he were here in US, I would have kicked his butt. And if it happens he has roamed around here, I'll throw an egg to his face, you RACIST!
I don't think he could have a peaceful sleep at night till he has apologized to all the Filipinos all around the world!
Mar 31, 2009 01:39
so you are chip tsao! you called my country as nation of servants huh! how do you call your country by the way? nation of replicas!!!
Mar 31, 2009 10:39
Chip Tsao's article is quite despicable. The Filipinos' willingness to do cheap jobs overseas to survive, like being a maid in Hongkong, does not make us cheap. But Tsao's feeling of superiority over the "nation of servants" makes him cheap. Indeed, he should be called "Cheap" Tsao! Or, sa tagalog pa, tsip na tao sya! I wonder how he could manage to do what he loves to do if he has no Filipino "domestic assistant," a.k.a. maid. Oh yes, he could write but live in a pigsty. And for him to tie self worth with wealth and power, which may be there but gone tomorrow, reveals shallowness in his thinking. Remember the Israelites in Egypt? They, too, were servants; no, more than that--they were "slaves." But that did not diminish their worth as God's people. They had their own failings, but finally, by the grace of God, they were brought to the land of promise, the land "flowing with milk and honey." Today Israel is a more prosperous and powerful nation than Egypt. Thus, it is not wise to equate one's worth with something as temporary as wealth and power.

@jonathan: obviously he did not and I don't think he has the intention of doing so. I think it is high time that injustices made to foreign employees be given attention and should be addressed right away. Thanks.
Mar 29, 2009 07:24
Even though I respect China and Chinese people I think they should be a little more responsible and have a big heart when it comes to smaller nations. China is like a big brother in Asia and it should not threaten smaller ones over small issues. i am sure the views of Mr. Chip Tsao are his personal views and not the Chinese government but his tone is quite harsh.
I hope the land of the cute peace loving people like Philippines grow in more prosperity and never see the day which Mr. Chip Tsao mentioned in his article.
Mar 29, 2009 08:01
@zorkor:
To take one man's view (Mr.Chip's) as representative of all Chinese people reflects the how narrow-minded some of us are towards each other, yourself included, zorkor. We Asians, after all, "look the same" in the eyes of the West. By building trust among citizens of Asia, we build a better future for our children.
Mar 29, 2009 10:40
I pity the guy because obviously he needs a psychiatrist. His feeling is understandable BUT the action specially towards his "servant" as he describe it is horrible. he is a writer in Hk MAYBE BY LUCK for he become famous even though he is UNEDUCATED PERSONA that's why he is that ARROGANT.
Ask him - if out of 90 millions of filipinos only 130,000 working in china , then how will he describe hongkong who half of the population is depending on china the worst not even their bread and butter BUT EVEN THEIR LEISURE. ARE YOU ONE OF THEM
"CHEAP Tsao"
By the way Mr. Cheap Tsao for a maid Legally the pay is HK$7,000.00 now you are paying her 3,580.00 only ??
By the way I'm half hongkong and half FILIPINO
Mar 29, 2009 11:23
Maybe filipino's are called "nation of servant's" that's fine we earned a living in very good way and clean without harming anybody, did mr. Tsao know that his beloved country is the land of pirates as many other asian country describe it....earning millions and harming other business..thanks mr. tsao, you're such an educated chinesse...keep it up mr. tsao..
Mar 29, 2009 15:53
This is very alarming. Did this writer ever think. Even though Filipino works in HK as maid that doesn't mean that Filipino are just servant. Did he know that there are many Chinese here in the Philippines that make a living but we don't even criticized them. I hope this Mr. Tsao try use his brain before writing these kind of article.....
Mar 29, 2009 17:42
I remember what Sean Connery said in his movie Finding Forrester, he said "You first write with your heart, then write with your mind", something to that effect.
Obviously Tsao wrote the article with his heart since as he said, his blood is boiling. But after writing the article, it seems he forgot to use his mind.
A very irresponsible opinion really.
Mar 29, 2009 18:47
This should have been censored by the Chinese, because it's a very sensitive issue and might spark a word war on both countries. This is being irresponsible by the Chinese media.
I was about to write a comment on the article's actual site, but stopped, thinking that the Chinese are so stupid that this trash actually got printed. If this is the "best" that their nation can produce then let them be. Not worth our time.
Mar 29, 2009 21:02
how come china claim the spratly?...are the chinese government know how to read a map?....yeah it's true that the spratly is located in south china sea but does it mean spratly belong to china? what a funny ambitious people....maybe vietnam can make a claim on spratly because it is located near to their archipelago next to the Philippine archipelago....do you know how to browse the web?,why not try to use the google map?, it can help you a lot chinese people...dont tell me you only know how to produce that f_ _ _ing pirated electronic gadgets, or maybe the harmful toys that can kill children because of it's lead content.....WAKE-UP freak....
Mar 30, 2009 21:17
Go to your Mom and ask some manners..... It's never too late for you.
Mar 30, 2009 21:56
@fitzd...Didn't your mom ever teach you any manners? Go and ask.
Mar 30, 2009 22:00
My employer not teach me manners, I am the one who teach her GOOD MANNERS AND RIGHT CONDUCT, because some of chinese people they don't have manners...but I am lucky because she followed what I am teaching for.
Mar 31, 2009 18:53
hey fitzd... we do not need to send gunboats for China to kill us... as we very well know SARS came from your area, melanine and all those poor quality products... not only Filipinos will suffer from your loved country.... i have Chinese friends so i'm sure not all would have pea-sized brain as you and Chip...
Apr 03, 2009 02:26
How can China blow up the Philippines? Haven't you read Chip's article? - "I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, hung a map on the wall, and gave her a harsh lecture. I sternly warned her that if she wants her wages increased next year, she had better tell everyone of her compatriots in Statue Square on Sunday that the entirety of the Spratly Islands belongs to China." - just getting a map to hang on his wall, he needs the help of Luisa... so what would the Chinese people do? call us, the servants, to blow up our own countrymen? I do not think so.... oh and does he really think Luisa told her compatriots in Statue Square the things Chip told her.... he may very well be drinking water that came from his washed up toilet!!! and he doesn't have the freakin' idea....
Apr 03, 2009 03:01
@fitzd: Sun Tzu said: The good fighters of old first put themselves beyond the possibility of defeat, and then waited for an opportunity of defeating the enemy.
May the good Lord have mercy on you.
Mar 29, 2009 22:04
@fitzd: Try becoming a Catholic and you won't regret it. Thank you for reading my profile. God Bless you brother.
Mar 29, 2009 22:33
Hi!
I am working in diffrent countries of Africa since 2005. soo many chinese working in African nations. They are working in everyfield...they are labour, running restaurants , also doing small business. In West African Countries anyone can see chinese girls engaged in prostitution....sorry but may be in his next book or article Tsao will descride china as country of proistitues......
Mar 29, 2009 23:19
What's wrong with being a servant? And why should be people be reacting with taunting from the author? And why should people feel bad if the Philippines invades China? Hey, Spratly islands are but specks in the southern part of the country and don't we have a right to claim these islands?
As for the Filipinos working in Hongkong, don't be a pikon. Some people need to be taken care of. Have patience the Hong Kong people who used to be free will soon learn sooner or later....
Mar 30, 2009 02:17
Tsao's article was done in a very bad taste
Mar 30, 2009 03:28
Filipino DH
- Hardworking
- Faithful
- Responsible
- Humane
Chinese Writer (Tsao)
- His Chinese cousins (Copy Cat – Supports Piracy)
- His fore-fathers (Drug Addicts – Opium)
- His Chinese Brothers are Human Trafficker, Abusive Employer, No manners
In conclusion, these Chinese families are petty criminals. These people should be ashamed with regards on what they are doing. In comparison to Filipino’s they are nothing but a petty criminals.
Mar 30, 2009 03:51
CORRECT!!!Filipino DH can speak chinese language. What about some chinese people they can speak our 21dialect???even english some chinese people they cannot understand, and they cannot pronounce it clearly.
Example: They cook their self hahaha....
Mar 31, 2009 18:58
ah scoobydoo, that whay I said in my comment and mirrored my views also, I dont know how you blamed me for narrow minded there.
I dont blame the Chinese for being blood boiled nowadays. The things which are going on in Tibet against Chinese has really made them touchy touchy. So any mention of "we will take this or that from China" makes the Chinese blowup instantly. So you cant blame the write Chip Tsao also.
In the end, in this conflict, I am sorry to say only West will gain from it and Asia will get only loss.
I pray for peace and prosperity for everyone....

“Imagine A World Without A Filipino†by Abdullah Al-Maghlooth (www.arabnews.com)
“So if Filipinos decided one day to stop working or go on strike for any reason, who would transport oil, food and heavy equipment across the world? We can only imagine the disaster that would happen.
When speaking about the Philippines, we should not forget Filipino nurses. They are some 23 percent of the world’s total number of nurses. The Philippines is home to over 190 accredited nursing colleges and institutes, from which some 9,000 nurses graduate each year. Many of them work abroad in countries such as the US, the UK, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Singapore.
The Philippines, which you can barely see on the map, is a very effective country thanks to its people. It has the ability to influence the entire world economy.
We should pay respect to Filipino workers, not only by employing them but also by learning from their valuable experiences.
We have to remember that we are very much dependent on the Filipinos around us. We could die a slow death if they chose to leave us.â€Â
Mar 30, 2009 09:25
I agree with this article.
What if one day filipinos decided to pull out all our domestic helpers, caregivers, workers, etc, in HK, Singapore, Japan, and other part of the world? what would happen? who will take care of their elders? certainly not the working class!
So i find the statement of Mr. Tsao very very unfair.
Apr 01, 2009 19:34
Wow, Talk about arrogant. I think he forgets that there are also millions of people of Chinese heritage who live in various countries around the world including the Philippines.
This guy has the nerve to say that somehow Philippines is so much beneath China that it should should just put up with anything it chooses do. I don't know if this author was going for tongue-in-cheek but he is obviously very ignorant and blatantly racist.
Mar 30, 2009 17:25
chip Tsao i will hunt you down............
Mar 30, 2009 17:54
IN THE LONG "WIN" 'CHEAP TSAO' WILL "RUN!" And Cheap Tsao can run but can not hide.
Mar 30, 2009 18:40
very nice...it was well said by this crazy ignorant chinese..Mr.Chip Tsao. I wonder what happens to him whenever he visits the Philippines or just on a transit.hahaha. I pity this man to release harsh word as per his own opinion but he is too brave to show his ignorance.
Mar 30, 2009 18:49
i think, mr. tsao is name CHIP TSAO... CHIP or CHEAP... if his comments are true, i think it reflects how CHEAP he is as a person and employer. if i am his employee, i'll resign right away and file a case against her. i think mr CHEAP is worthy of being banned from entering the philippines
Mar 30, 2009 19:10
Mr. Chip Tsao your pathetic, how can you call your self a jounalist. You have no idea about responsible writhing. And you dont even understand the issue behind all your sentiments..
Calling our nation as servants
is something we shoudnt be ashamed of at least were working in a right manner, were not stepping into somebody or a nation just to earn money in the pocket. And insulting filino domestic workers like you did is unacceptable thing.
And to the HK magazine and its editor, publishing his work shows how irresponsible your team was.
Mar 30, 2009 20:06
Mar 30, 2009 20:13
As a journalist, i would like to share one of my columns for TSIP to understand how important FILIPINOS are in the world...
Imagine a world without Filipinos
“We have to remember that we are very much dependent on the Filipinos around us. We could die a slow death if they chose to leave us.â€Â
I was updating my website at home when an email popped out suddenly and had taken my attention for a moment. What a great thing to have this at stake, an article written by a foreign author praising Filipinos in all corners of the world for their heroic or dedicated service they rendered. The line “Imagine a world without Filipinos†by Abdullah Ai-Maghlooth was one of its kinds, indeed a breathtaking piece to have placed Filipinos on banner in an Arab News local press.
He said, “So if Filipinos decided one day to stop working or go on strike for any reason, who would transport oil, food, and heavy equipment around the world? When speaking about the Philippines, we should not forget Filipino nurses who composed 23% of the world’s total number of nurses. We can only imagine the disaster that would happen.â€Â
From his line, one can truly understand that some countries like Saudi Arabia do not actually teach their children maintain machinery or manipulate heavy equipment and that they are dependent on foreign workers like Filipinos to work for them. It’s a good riddance for us, most specially that the government cannot provide enough jobs for its citizens as manifested in the mind blowing number of unemployed Filipinos in the country.
Nevertheless, one of the points in same article which I find it very interesting is the author’s sensitivity to consider Filipinos’ professionalism quality and globally competitive. This is palpable however when Filipinos make up 20% of the world’s seafarers, 23% world nurses and have statistically found 1,019,577 Filipino workers in his country.
Such assessment is an astounding involvement one can witness which I believe is a very rare appraisal that will come from a foreign judgment and perception. May this remind everybody in doing same quality and competitive jobs one should display in his own workplace.
(For comments, please leave them in my website at www.lesiomhar.page.tl or in my cp 09182658221)

Wow, what a stupid comment. I'm pretty sure Chinese govt. will likely take action on this man. I think he should apoligise to the People of Philipines.
I have to agree with zorkor, this only benefiting the west. I don't think American really care about Phlipinos. I wished China's role in Asia should be like America and Europe.
Mar 30, 2009 20:54

I AM PROUD TO BE A "NATION OF A SERVANT". FOR YOUR INFORMATION HKD 3,580 NOT USD3,580.
Mar 30, 2009 21:37
MR.TSAO YOU ARE CRAZY!!!THAT IS THE EFFECT OF MELAMINE....HAHAHA
Mar 30, 2009 21:42
HAHAHA CORRECT... MELAMINE!!!!!!!!!!! How dare you Mr. Cheap TSaO.. haha
Mar 31, 2009 10:35
your written apology is not enough.
you must appear in a television
and kiss your own ass!!!
Mar 30, 2009 21:49
mr. chao, you really make yourself famous by your irresponsible remarks. you made my blood boil! if abu sayyaf have someone to take hostage here, it should be you, thinking no one will bother to save you!
Mar 31, 2009 00:15
mr. "cheap" tsao has to offer his sincere apologies in writing to the filipino people.
mr. cheap has to be called by a good name that he truly deserves. ASSHOLE. on the other hand, the magazine where he wrote this article -- which leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, by the way -- should be made to, publicly and in writing, extend its apology to the filipino people. i should also say that the editors who read this article first before its publication, should be berated for such an unprofessional conduct -- that is, allowing one of your shit heads to write an article at the expense of a race whose people faithfully serve mr. cheap and his countrymen.
i am a servant myself. i serve God with the best of my abilities and talents and i am not ashamed of being called a servant because the greatest in God's kingdom are those which the world considers the least. but mr. cheap has maligned the word servant and has used it with much contempt. shame on you, mr. cheap tsao!
can somebody give mr. cheap a crash course in history and geology? or social studies perhaps? although a lifetime course on good manners and right conduct is a must. spratlys belong to the philippines. when the world's land chunk was still a big whole, the philippines is connected to the rest of the asian continent. when that big chunk separated, the philippines drifted away leaving small islands behind the tectonic activity. i believe that the islands belong to the philippines. nonetheless, the philippines is not taking all of the dry land in that island group. only those islands which this country thinks is hers. filipinos think it will be wise to be correctly assertive but to also be at peace with the neighboring powers and live in harmony with them who also assert sovereignty over the islands. this is the spirit of a true servant. meek and humble but assertive and vigilant.
the pride of the filipinos throughout the ages is to have a heart that cares for others and to have a skill to serve others. yes, the OFWs run the country's economy but in the core of working for others come good servanthood. i thank God filipinos are not arrogant, puffed up and bubble-headed like mr. cheap and his cheap friends. continue to be proud of mr. mao and his ideologies and down you will also go with your ideals, sir.
God have mercy on your soul.
Mar 31, 2009 00:49
by the way, we filipinos take a bath everyday (sometimes twice or thrice a day) even if it is snowing outside. we always brush our teeth. we use deodorant and we always are concerned about our smell. when we eat, we do not spit on the floor. when we talk to people, we do not pick our noses. when we take a shit, we wipe it with a soft tissue paper then wash the shit hole with soap and water. then we wash our hands very well. we eat using our hands but the hand we put in our mouths is not the same hand that we wash our asses with. these and many other things separate us from pigs like mr. cheap.
Mar 31, 2009 01:10
There are lots of Tsao's fellowmen living in our country though not as servants as what he called (this is a stone-age term, which actually he really look like) and earn living here in PH. He should have known that people are benefiting from each other may it be on their homelands or not, so it is quite insulting that this stone-age/old man thinks they are superior. Hello Tsao are you losing your mind? Grow up!
You're getting too much attention, are you happy now? Guess what, we're now laughing at you knowing that you did apologize for what you have said and done. You lose your DIGNITY because you cannot withstand what you just did. Poor you!
Mar 31, 2009 05:39
People people, please stop the racist attacks. I am not a Chinese nor a Filipino but this is going too much now. Please dont hate the whole China as a nation just because one guy messed up. Do nations go to war just becuase someone wrote a racits column in the newspaper? Please people cool down and dont paint everything in black color.
Philippines is known as nation of servants, SO WHAT? They are one damn good servants and they are almost the engine of the world economy. You should be proud of that. So please cool down a little. :)
Mar 31, 2009 06:58
Friends, we can critize Chip Tsao and disagree with his words but lets not resort to name calling, swearing and hurl insults. Thank you.
Mar 31, 2009 07:41
Deport all the Chinese People here in the Philippines and PULL-OUT all our Hero Filipino Workers in HONGKONG... Lets just See Mr. CHEAP TSAO- TSE!
Mar 31, 2009 10:31
Very uncalled for of Chip Tsao. Is HK Online some cheap tabloid?
Mar 31, 2009 10:34
@Geek: HK magazine already issued an apology (see my other post). Reports indicated Chip Tsao will also issue an apology. I also found out that this is not the first time Tsao did something like this. Thanks.
Mar 31, 2009 10:41
Filipinos are one of the best people in the world to be with, they are peace loving, hardworking and intelligent. In every country you'll see a lot of successful Filipino in a variety of discipline
I happen to visit Dubai just so recently and had a city tour at night with my friends, indeed saw a lot of Filipino and Filipina in my Hotel, Malls and Offices I visited But few did i see chinese men or women, you know I found them? when I happen to tour the city at night I saw them crawling the streets of Naif and Al rigga Road calling for customers for a price of 30-50 local currency. Thats a cheap price compared to medicines for cough and Flu for these ladies (or should I still call them ladies? coz by their look i guess most of them are between 30-50). I was more concerned than surprised, is life really difficult in China that even at this age the still work as such?
So now Mr. Chao true enough that the Philippines is exporting its people to other countries, but as skilled workers, but how about China? You wanna know read it again, maybe its the melamine.
Mar 31, 2009 11:23
Yeah right, Mr. Cheap Tsao forgot, what you have now in Hong Kong is you owe it everything from the British...if they dindt colonized your area, im pretty sure you wont be in your position right now.. you might be in your mainland, replicating some signatured western shoes and bag and dvd, putting melamine on milk poisoning your own children, drug trafficking.. etc.. you wash the ass hole of the british.. dont you remember? you dindt talked back anything about the Japs and the Russians for what they did to your country thats because your are their subordinate, its like accepting it with all your heart that you country is a lower class from them.. no sense of patriotism at all huh?! moron! we work decently, were not like you.. if you knew in Japan even if you worked as a Garbage Collector or even the lowest kind of job just as long as you contribute to your country for good they dindt look at you like what you did to us.. you aint using your head at all.. ohh!! the spanish basketball team during the Olympics also make funny pictures.. you forgot them!! ahaha
Mar 31, 2009 11:35
@techguy yeah I just read it. Satirical? many people have read meanings into this column that were never actually intended?
Mar 31, 2009 11:45
No wonder you are named Cheap Tsao by you parents, am pretty sure something bad happens into your brain when you are still on you mom's womb. Could this be side effect of melamine? Poor you!
Mar 31, 2009 12:18
Mr. Chip Tsao after this article, I will suggest to make an article on prostitution in the gulf especially in UAE. You will be shock from which nationality they are! Thinks how people from here thinks of your country. Country of ?? You can continue with that Mr. Tsao.
Mar 31, 2009 13:12
I hope that we filipino people learned something from this. it's now time to wake up. Philippines gov't should stop exporting its own people as a slave to the known abusive countries. CHEAP TSAO deserves the worst curses even bitter death.
Mar 31, 2009 14:34
1000 public apology is not enough, CHEAP TSAO ruined enough the good image of the filipino nation. He is lucky coz am not there in HK.
Mar 31, 2009 14:46
and you call yourself a journalist? mr cheap tsao? you just dug you own grave using your narrow mindedness, racist and ignorant opinions. you call Philippines as a Nation of Servants? and who do you think you are? You are nobody. Nothing! you don't exist in the world of professionals. you're just a whiny guy who whines everytime a man breaks his heart.
how about learning a little history, mr. cheap tsao? don't you know that chinese are poor compared to filipinos in the past decades? don't you know that most of the chinese here are into, prostitutions, drugs, vending soy curd, and boiled eggs? so who do you think is better now? the one cleaning your house, doing dishes and taking care of those illiterate, ignorant, and abusive chinese like you or the one whose into selling flesh in the philippines, selling drugs, using melamines? if you think you chinese are better than filipinos, why don't you ask some educated professionals?
if china and philippines goes on war? yeah, you're right, we don't stand a chance on winning. our population is nothing compared to your population because you chinese people only knows nothing but to increase your people year after year. you might win the war. but we will not surrender nor give up spratlys till we have something to give in. you know what will make the filipinos win the war if it break out? our unity!
china is big. but don't you know that goliath was defeated by david? better think twice before writing any stupid article.
apology may be acceptable. but if you want to take back your stained name? please resign and quit the journalism world if you please.
Mar 31, 2009 15:07
Sorry, but how is this a tech piece? I know there's been a lot of buzz on Twitter and other social network sites, but you don't talk about any of that here.
Mar 31, 2009 15:13

Mar 31, 2009 16:03
With the barrage of comments thrown against "CHEAP" Tsao - I lost words to say against him.
But I pity on our fellow OFW-P Louisa. I can't imagine the life she has with this kind of employer. I would like to call the attention of the Philippine Government through the DFA, OWWA and POEA to save Louisa from her arrogant, ignorant and CHEAP employer before possible physical harm be inflected on her.
Apology is not enough, CHEAP Tsao do not deserve to get a service from a humble yet honest and hard working employee like Louisa. This kind of employer should be banned for life from hiring the service of a Filipino.
My Chinese employers before who were based in Hong Kong never considered their employees as servants, but equal partners in business. Unfortunately, only a nano-percentage are like them against billions of Chinese like CHEAP Tsao.
MABUHAY PHILIPPINES - Home of World Class Overseas Filipino Working Professionals and Service Providers.
Mar 31, 2009 16:09
Points have been made by so many that my comments on here may be just a repetition.
I am from Shenyang, Liaoning Province of China. My province is known as one of the three places in China where the people are friendly and peaceful. That place is far up North - where we reason with our head...Mr. Tsao comes from down South - where, if it be made an analogy - er, where he reasons with somewhere 'down below'?
I condemn such an insulting, irresponsible, thoughtless, and totally ignorant writing. I am Chinese...again let me reiterate that...but I take the stand the Filipino people take. For once, this is not a question of patriotism. I am patriotic enough but my blood will not boil over some courageous stand the Philippine government deem fit they see. Why Mr. Tsao seethes over the Philippine congress sending gunboats is beyond my comprehension. If we think we are so mighty, would we be scared of anything we think 'small'? That should make us think - that should make us realize that we are not that 'big' after all! If a 'master' cowers at the 'threat' of its 'servant', is he even befitting the title 'master'?
There is nothing wrong with the Philippines sending its workforce abroad to perform decent and honest ways of earning wage. The word 'slave' is lauded by Christ who taught His disciples to be the 'servant of all'. There is nothing wrong in the word 'servant'...unless it is used in a condescending way of which Mr. Tsao is guilty of.
A lot of my countrymen do odd jobs, too, and with the swollen number of our population, the ratio of the Filipino 'servants' would pale in comparison to the number of Chinese 'servants'. Mr. Tsao, we don't call them 'servants', do we?
Mainland China is so different from the Hong Kong picture you have painted, my friend. Er, have you visited Mainland China? You will be surprised how peaceful our people are. I guess you must learn OUR culture first before you attempt teaching your 'maid' something...Chairman Mao himself would beat you for doing what you just did to her.
If you come to Mainland China, you will be surprised at the big number of Filipinos gainfully employed in our schools. Who teaches our kids these days? The beautiful, intelligent, kind-hearted, and courageous Filipinos. One day, your offspring will LEARN from a Filipino teacher...your lineage will then be a better copy of you...a 'corrected copy'.
Yes, I come from Shenyang...mainland China. And you come from Hong Kong...tsk tsk tsk...that's saying something these days.
To the Filipino people slighted by this man, I offer apologies. You Filipinos are brave.
And oh, before I forget, why do I take side with the Filipinos? Because I came to know the One True God from one Filipina friend...that makes all the difference. Who is the Giant now if they have this MAGNIFICENT GOD? It is this same God that our big country needs, and thankfully, He is also using the Filipinos to let Himself be known in this country!
Peace!
Mar 31, 2009 16:14
Hi Wang Chen, thank you for the support and articulating defense on our side. You are right in every sense of your thought and my sould, our soul as filipinos, are deeply touched by your support. I hope to know you sometimes. My name is Eduardo and I am working here in Dubai.
take care and god bless.
Apr 01, 2009 14:15
WangChen34, I admire you for siding with what you think is true.
Keep spreading the light that comes from the the One True God. I am hopeful and praying that revival will soon come to China as well.
God bless!

This low lifeform writer who thinks he is a jornalist does not deserve my time. I hereby focus on the Magazine Publishers who have the ultimate responsibility and accountability to the effects of their published articles.
There a a lot of renegade and vulgar language writers who hide under the cloaks of "satire," freedom of expression, etc."
Its the magazine publisher who decides if a writer's article deserves to be published or not. The publisher has to see to it that satire and freedom of expression cannot be used to dishonor a person, group of persons, a race or a nation as in this case.
This means that since the publisher allowed this article to be published, they take the responsibility and belief that what their writer wrote was RIGHT, NOT OFFENSIVE and TRUE.
And so the publisher's APOLOGY since their SATIRE article (as reported in the news) was not meant to insult the Filipinos.
The HK Mag publishers had better stop writing in English since they dont know what damage their article did.
We better find out who the owners of this magazine are and boycott them and their relatives' businesses here in the Philippines! We dont need to rely on a govt diplomatic protest for this!
As for his Filipina Maid, somebody had better help her get another employer since I could just imagine the emotional sufferings she encounters in the form of her employer's comments everytime he receives comments like ours defending the Filipino honor!
Let's spearhead a boycott and condemnation of this HK Magazine!!!
Mar 31, 2009 16:43
Such a disgrace to the Chinese community. How did he come up with thoughts like that? Did he even think of (Ooooppssss!) With words like that he definitely needs help.
Mr. Tsao is mentally ill.
For the Filipina maids, better help her soon. Get her out of the hostility she is in.
Mar 31, 2009 17:50

Mar 31, 2009 18:04
Yes! I agree with you. we are a servant but they push their servant to teach their children in school regarding their homework etc.....and also some businessman and business woman they are lucky because they have a servant, secretary, messenger and janitress.
Mar 31, 2009 18:43
There is nothing wrong if we are a servant as long as we perform decent and honest ways of earning wage. The word 'slave' is lauded by Christ who taught His disciples to be the 'servant of all'.
Mar 31, 2009 19:02
i think "that" man finds himself funny. his job requires him to make fun of others and receives GOOD pay in return. DOES MONEY REALLY MATTERS MORE THAN ANyTHING ELSE?
how cruel he is, thinking that a NATION HE KNEW NOTHING OF WOULD MAKE HIM WRITE SUCH. how dare him to say bad things about the filipinos well in fact, his race, the chinese people are somewhat the CAUSE of GLOBAL WARMING. THEY ARE KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE OF THEIR FACTORIES.AND THEIR PRODUCTS ARE VERY LOW IN QUALITY. THEY EVEN KILLED THEIR OWN COUNTRYMEN, REMEMBER THE MELAMINE ON MILKS?
hey people, it's better to think that the Philippines is a "nation of servants" instead known as a "nation of pollutants"!
Chip Tsao should better be careful about his thoughts-- as an individual, he has moral obligation to his fellowmen.
oh sorry, an individual has a HEART. i don't think that HE HAS.
Mar 31, 2009 19:23
I vehemently would like to have that very 'cheap' chip tsao be chopped into pieces. ahihihi... Is he crazy? He might have forgotten his media code of ethics.
Please cast your spell on him by signing on this petition:

Mr.Cheap Tsao (pam-pan)NAGKAMALI KA NG BINANGGA!!!NAGKAMALI KA NG BINANGGA.WE ARE BORN A CHAMPION!!!
Mar 31, 2009 21:40
dont be arrogant mr. cheap tsao!..i suppose ur ignorant enough when u wrote the philippines as a nation of slaves..i am very happy i belonged to a country full of respect for humanity..a country full of humility and respect..how about you mr cheap tsao, do u have pride iwht china? a country full of hypocrisy, trying to believe the world that they are a great country? oh common, china has a lot of laborers arround the word, a lot of prostitutes tooi know a lot of people in china are not living descently..its better for us filipinos that we learn how to speak english more than chinese. we can do what we would like to unlike communist china who controls their people that they think they only have the authority to do and do good things!. mabuhay ang pilipinas!
Mar 31, 2009 23:16
hmmm...that was diabolically undaunted of you to write...have your brain cells went kaputt of ideas and opinions that would help you catch up with your beats?hmmm...now, you just made a free-for-all sanguinary klatsch...you're in trouble chip tsao...hmmm. yup, you've got our people there as your servants...check out what your people are doing here in the Philippines...too stingy and filthy as faecals to mention...and very versatile huh....in foods, drugs, electronics, plastic, garments, etc..hey chip tsao, go, verify what links your race with all of these....hahaha...oh, not to forget....manners and identification papers ...hmmm..get excited to know chip tsao..
Apr 01, 2009 00:29
Technically, Tsao had contained himself in an irresponsible journalism resulting to a malicious article. Beating a deadline, whether for a straight news or feature (interpretative, in-depth, or opinionated) column, goes with equipping an article with a sense of "national or global security". Obviously, Tsao was a lousy writer - working out his brain cells to the highest level of zilch..."ZERO"....Any journalist out there would understand what i am trying to point out. Practically, one does not have to be a real writer to understand what mess Tsao did to his article (which was full of poor dogmas to a sickening degree) ..Remember, Tsao, your peers would probably tolerate your work or chuckle it off for a very yellow journalism; but its the READERS who would not for whatever clear implications your articles would bring before the public...pro bono publico! Every writer (the literates....hmmmm), or probably even the abecedarians get to read and edit their own aricles. Would you?..review how you indited your article, how it was laid out and paid out with all your hubris on it?hmmmm....such a hoopla for people who are pooh-poohing you now. hmmm...really, some ornaments in the seat of journalism...some hoodoos..
Apr 09, 2009 21:47
this is a total downbeat to the Filipino race!!!!
but let us think back first, i think the ma had a point in another angle; this is a wake up call to our government that (my apologies to the ofw's) labor is not a good commodities to market in other country!
why come in a foreign country to be a slave anyway?
wake up pinoy, our government is spending a lot of money just to educate us all, not to use our knowledge for the benefit of other country, but for us Filipino; FIRST
not for chinese, americans, europeans, etc.,...
but Filipinos!
Apr 01, 2009 00:47
I hope that many think like you. Serve your own country. It is not easy but you can do it.
Apr 03, 2009 14:23
we have a slang here in philippines called "KSP".. hehehe some previous comments here are quite funny.. like "sergs says...

but as a Catholic.. I still can't judge him for that. If war the comes.. Jesus Christ will be our Judge..
Apr 01, 2009 01:13
You would have chipped teeth if I ever meet you! First of all, I would suggest that all the bars and restaurants in hongkong that the said magazine circulates in in protest: "Laap Saap" every issue! Makes me feel a bit better, eh kabayan. See how thier sponsors and advertisers feels. HAHAHAHAHA! They're the one who should pay first then cheap Tsao....HO Tsao!! I know where you live, where your kids go to school, where your wife goes shopping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As santa claus would say ' You Better Watch Out' you pissed-off more than 130,000 pinoy in hongkong. Bad Boy, Bad Boy, watacha gonna do when they come for you!
Apr 01, 2009 04:59
Folks, Tsao is just obstinately devoted to his own opinions and prejudices... A man whose demeanor just marked not just himself but even his raise down simply because of his rubbish, prattle, uneducated mind that made him "blatherskite". A man who doesnt know the fundamental reality about his own raise, facts about his motherland. A "man" yet has a juvenile mind, acting like prepubescent child!
"At least we Filipinos work abroad with esteem and respect and legally while Chinese women are lured abroad through false promises of legitimate employment, only to be forced into commercial sexual exploitation. Philippines is the source of great, ennobled workers who works accordingly and with dignity around the world while China is the source country for methamphetamine and heroin chemical precursors that cause the growth of domestic consumption of synthetic drugs in thegrowing domestic consumption of synthetic drugs world!"
These are just but some of those simple reality you shouldve pondered before writing your malevolent article, Chip Tsao!
Now, who is worthy of worse allegations?

you just dug your own grave, mr cheap chow! what you've written in your article will haunt you down til eternity. before writing anything, please educate yourself first. read history books, read the news, watch the tv because you are not what you think you are, mr cheap chow. you're nothing in this world but a worthless writer. a writer who wants to gain popularity in any way, which includes degrading Filipinos. you are not popular mr cheap chow, you're the biggest mistake your mother ever committed. i pity you, we filipinos pity you for being so uneducated, ignorant, and judgmental.
Apr 01, 2009 10:09
POINT 1:"As a patriotic Chinese man, the news(Philippine Baseline Bill) has made my blood boil. I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, hung a map on the wall, and gave her a harsh lecture."
I thought To Kit(Chip Tsao's pseudonym) had a wrong type of map saying that the Spratly Islands belongs to PROC.WELL,IS THE ISLAND PROVINCE OF PALAWAN CLOSE TO THE FORMER BRITISH-HELD CITY?Louisa knew Spratly Islands IS CLOSE TO THE SWORD-SHAPE PROVINCE!These islands WAS DISCOVERED BY TOMAS CLOMA,A FILIPINO!!I MUST HAVE A HARSH LECTURE TO YOU!
POINT 2:"There are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as HK$3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong. As a nation of servants, you don't flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter."-To Kit
HOW ABOUT IF ALL OF THEM LEFT HK? WILL YOU ASK UK TO BE THE OPIUM TERMINAL AGAIN FOR HK ECONOMY TO GO ON? I WILL NOT CAL YOUR COUNTRY AS WHAT YOU CALL RP,BUT WHERE DID THE CYBER HACKING CAME FROM THAT INFILTRATE OUR FOREIGN AFFAIRS OFFICE?
POINT 3:"Oh yes. The Government of the Philippines would certainly be wrong if they think we Chinese are prepared to swallow their insult and sit back and lose a Falkland Islands War in the Far East."-To Kit
HA?PLEASE COMPARE THE DISTANCE OF FALKLAND ISLANDS TO ARGENTINA AND SPRATLY ISLANDS TO PROC? I THOUGHT YOUR MAP SUGGESTED THAT AUSTRALIA IS IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE!
POINT 4:"Some of my friends told me they have already declared a state of emergency at home. I’m not sure if that's going a bit too far, at least for the time being."
DO NOT USE MAO ZEDONG'S NAME IN SUCH A VAIN!DO NOT COMPARE THAT"INDOCTRINATION" DURING CULTURAL REVOLUTION!
POINT 5:"Grimly, I told her that if war breaks out between the Philippines and China, I would have to end her employment and send her straight home, because I would not risk the crime of treason for sponsoring an enemy of the state by paying her to wash my toilet and clean my windows 16 hours a day. With that money, she would pay taxes to her Government, and they would fund a navy to invade our motherland and deeply hurt my feelings."
REMEMBER THE CODE OF CONDUCT OF YOUR COUNTRY TO ASEAN,WERE RP IS A MEMBER!
THIS ARTICLE IS AIMED AT MOCKING THE PEARL OF THE ORIENT SEAS!
THIS IS NOT A SATIRE!
TO KIT,MR. CHIP TSAO,PUBLIC APOLOGY IS NOT ENOUGH!IF YOU WANT FILIPINOS TO ABSOLVE YOU,REPENT!!!
Apr 01, 2009 13:06
I am a CPA working as Chief Financial Officer here in Dubai. And I am a Filipino, a proud one! All I can say is, "truth really hurts" and I believe that there is also some truth in his article. Yes, i admit that we are a "nation of servants". What do you expect from a country whose government is honing and encouging its citizens to go abroad just to feed a country instead of making ways on how to build a sustainable economy at our own backyard. Even how high or low our positions abroad, it doesn't matter, we are still servants of someone else. But who is not? Isn't it Mr. Cheap tsao also a servant by himself? isn't he also serving another boss? Is there anyone in this world which can say that I am NO servant of anyone? The answer is obvious. But Mr Cheap should just be more concern I think if his toothbrush is being used by his maid to clean his toilet bowl by this time instead of minding a very complex issue which is definitely NOT gasped by his intelect. By the way, just fyi, we filipinos are also very "creative" on how we deal with our feelings and of revenge. so be careful Mr. Tsao. You might also be zipping a soup full of saliva by your maids right now?... hehehe.. sometimes, life is so simple, you don't need to be intelligent to understand, you just need to be wise. By the way, regarding the war?.. hey bring it on! you dont want to mess up with a country full of manny pacquiaos! bring it on, oooh, are we scared?... hahaha.... or is China so scared of us?... bring on the war!
Apr 01, 2009 13:42
I am quite sure that after CHEAP tsao's scandal, he became so scared & sleepless with his mounting guilt. hence, he is no more safe wherever he goes.
Apr 01, 2009 14:56
it has been said a pen is mightier than the sharpest sword if we can recall our great national hero Dr. Jose Rizal used his pen to ignite the Pilipino people againts then the oppressive spanish conquestador...
as a writer it is your sacred duty and responsibility that you use your pen to good use...unfortunately Mr. Tsao blantantly breaks it....
May God have mercy on his soul....

Jerry Liao,
You can't be serious with this "faked anger" response of yours concerning Chip Tsao's tongue-in-cheek article!!! Don't you know anything about "reading between the lines"? Surely you are aware of the nature of Mr. Tsao's columns? But I think you're not, eh? Well, since you are so quick to evoke the name of Jesus, let me also evoke it to ask forgiveness for your riot-inciting mis-reading of a, yes, PRO-FILIPINO article that's obviously above your intellectual level of graspability.
I will simply suggest that all of you Bandwagon Bloodboilers try to imagine that it is possible Mr Tsao is praising rather than deriding Filipino culture ... while at the same time deriding, not praising, Hong Kong traditional Chinese culture. If you are mature enough to imagine the possibility, then go back and read the article again.
I tell you, as a third-party American stuck in the middle, it is clear as the noontime daylight what this article is all about ... and it's NOT about Filipino-bashing ...
You people need to apologize to Chip Tsao for forcing him to apologize for this superbly written piece of sarcastic literature, and for all of your CHEAP jumping to conclusions and name-calling. (Especially those of you who call him idiot in the name of the Lord. "For anyone who calls his brother RACA ..... ")
As for you, Jerry Liao, you should stick to your day job as Mr tech-writer. Real writing is, shall we say, over your head? In your defense, I have always thought that innocence and naivete find sarcasm hard to recoginze when encountered. So keep up your good tech-work!
Apr 01, 2009 18:27
@Jimbo: You kinda don't make sense here. You're the one with angry at Jerry. At the same time you're neutral 3rd party, American. Kinda sounds fake. By the way Jerry being angry would be geniune, since he is 1st party right? Manipulating someone's belief is pretty low and not mention you are insulting people here. This seems kinda odd coming from someone who's trying to eleborate the writer's view point as being pro-Philipino. Any way I don't think your any position to tell people who should apoligise to whom. Especially with your verbal language.
Apr 01, 2009 19:42
Mr. Jerry Liao's descent speaks for itself, having Chinese descent,BUT HE WILL CANNOT TOLERATE SUCH MOCKERY BECAUSE HE WAS BORN HERE IN THE PEARL OF THE ORIENT SEAS! Anyway jimboclare, you said that you are a "third-party American stuck in the middle,"well I'll ask you one question:WHY ARE YOU DEFENDING TO KIT(CHIP TSAO)? HOW ABOUT IF I WRITE AN ARTICLE ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY'S ATROCITIES AND PLUNDERING OF OUR NATURAL RESOURCES,THE UNPOPULAR BUSH WAR IN IRAQ,IN WHICH YOUR TROOPS THERE ARE RAPING AND KILLING UNARMED CIVILIANS?YOUR FELLOW AMERICANS PROTEST AGAINST BUSH POLICIES? IS THAT SATIRE? I THOUGHT YOU ARE A REPUBLICAN LIKE EVIL BUSH!!!
YOU ARE THE REINCARNATION OF INDIANA SENATOR ALBERT JEREMIAH BEVERIDGE:"THE PHILIPPINES IS OURS FOREVER!"
TO YOU,jimboclare,YOUR COUNTRY HAD GREAT LEADERS LIKE ABRAHAM LINCOLN, ANDREW JACKSON AND FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT,BUT YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THEM,BUT YOU ARE VERY MUCH IDENTICAL WITH YOU GODS,BUSH AND CHENEY!!!
Apr 01, 2009 21:39
Chip Tsao (TO KIT,his pseudonym)had earned a lot of great geographical lessons to HIS PROFESSOR, SARAH LOUISE PALIN, GOVERNOR OF THE US STATE OF ALASKA.HERE ARE SOME:
PALIN GEO 1:Speaking in the US state of New Hampshire, she said "here in the great NORTHWEST"
REAL GEO 1:The US state of New Hampshire is located in THE NORTHEAST, bounded by the states of Vermont in the west, Maine in the east and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the south.
The geographical northwest of Mainland US is Washington!
PALIN GEO 2:She is in the US,but she said "our neighborhood AFGHANISTAN"
REAL GEO 2:North of US is Canada, south is Mexico. How come that
Afghanistan became US neighboring country? That is a SOUTH ASIN COUNTRY bounded by Pakistan in the east,Iran in the west and its south, and former USSR republics Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the northwest and Tajikistan in the north.
NOW,LOOK AT YOUR MAP AGAIN,AND LET LOUISA LECTURE YOU!!!
Apr 01, 2009 22:04
Chip Tsao(To Kit)apologized:
CT:"The ’servant’ is a sacred term. A Hong Kong government official is a civil servant. We are all servants to God, right? I’m now aware that I’ve crossed the line and I offer my public apology,"
LJ:DON'T FOOL US CHIP TSAO! TO KIT!THIS HOW YOUR ARTICLE GOES:"But hold on-—even the Filipinos? Manila has just claimed sovereignty over the scattered rocks in the South China Sea called the Spratly Islands, complete with a blatant threat from its congress to send gunboats to the South China Sea to defend the islands from China if necessary. This is beyond reproach. The reason: There are more than 130,000 Filipina maids working as HK$3,580-a-month cheap labor in Hong Kong. As a nation of servants, you don't flex your muscles at your master, from whom you earn most of your bread and butter."
INTELLIGENT PEOPLE WILL NOT ACCEPT YOUR EXCUSE!
BE SINCERE WITH YOUR APOLOGY! SHOW REPENTANCE!
Apr 01, 2009 22:25
I don't know what you're talk about, Shining Star.
There's no anger here! Only a desire for truth, and to put out the flame of mass hysteria caused by ignorance of reality. You people don't understand Chip Tsao's article. If you did, you wouldn't be upset. End of story.
The story is about China's oppressive regime and attitude. The writer is ridiculing it. It's the only way he can make his point without being thrown into prison forever, so he uses satire. Pray that you can open your eyes to see the reality of this writer's technique. He's not talking about his own opinions, but ridiculing those who do think like that. The fact that he uses a Filipino context is only because it's recent news. He will write the same style column next week about Tibet or Taiwan or Indonesian oil rights, etc. If any of you were familiar with this newspaper and the writer's history in satirical column-writing ... you'd understand. But you're not, so you don't.
But if you insist on saying the sky is green and not blue, not much I can do for you... some people prefer the fostering of hate to the seeking of truth. Your choice ...
Fact is, you should be praising Chip Tsao instead of crucifying him and anyone who tries to explain him, but no, then you'd have to swallow your false pride, eh? Can't do that!!
Nice going, Jerry Liao ... "We Filipinos are peace-loving people and we don't allow our emotions to get the better of things. Most of all, we have too much class that we will not stoop down the level of Chip Tsao."
Surely that is the JOKE OF THE WEEK?
;-)
Apr 02, 2009 00:08
@jimboclare: That maybe his style of writing, but I don't care much about that. He can use his own race for his satirical writing, and for his argument's sake. If he go to jail for writing against his government, let it be, if that's his sincere desire for change.
But he must not use other race just to satisfy his style, because there is such a word as "respect." A word that is widely neglected these days. A person can have our respect, until they will take it away.
Apr 02, 2009 11:28
@Jimbo: No anger? I think comments directed at Jerry beg to differ. I don't think you know anything about the article. Where does it critises Chiense Govt. ? By the way if you think Chinese Govt is opressive, why are you in HK? And Chiense people beg to differ on that point. And it's odd how you claim not doing any Flipino insult, look at your last comment. As a Christian Pastor you have poor manners and unpleasant attitude.
Apr 02, 2009 02:23
@Star: Wish that you could drop speculation and judgment and open your eyes to the article. Where does it criticize Chinese govt, you ask? Obviously you don't know satire when it slaps you in the face because that's the theme of the ENTIRE article ... but go ahead and claim that I'm the one ignorant about the article if it makes you FEEL better. But PLEASE go and do some research on SATIRE before you speak any more. Maybe you know a literature teacher that can help you.
And since when does criticism of Mr. Liao imply anger? Grow up, he's a professional. Mature adults can handle, indeed they welcome, constructive criticism, I hope you can, too. Judging by Mr. Liao's non-response to my accusation, I suspect (hope) he's realized his error already?
This whole group needs to look at themselves instead of judging others. That's why I put the last comment in. 20 pages of name-calling and threats against an innocent man. I can almost hear the faint cries of "Heil Hitler" nationalism in the background. Peace-loving Filipinos? Not here!
The reason my style makes you feel unpleasant is because it speaks to your guilty conscience.
But it won't make a bit of difference unless one of you wakes up your brain to the FACT that this satirical article is NOT about Filipino-bashing.
You only WANT it to be about Filipino-bashing.
You owe Chip Tsao an apology for bearing false witness against him.
So, Star, you tell me where I'm wrong with my analysis. Salamat po in advance.
What say you, Mr. Liao?
Apr 02, 2009 08:05
@Jimboclaire: "As a patriotic Chinese man, the news has made my blood boil."
Apr 02, 2009 10:25
@Jimboclaire: "As a patriotic Chinese man, the news has made my blood boil."
Isn't this proof of him implying his anger? Sir, his blood is boiling.. Where is your sense of logic?
Apr 02, 2009 10:26
@Jimboclaire: Even if this article isn't really "meant" about Filipino-bashing, Mr. Liao should also think first before writting his articles. Maybe it isn't really meant to be the way it came out and Mr. Liao is really innocent. But for sure he made a mistake. Lets say an honest mistake, that's why it is them who owe us an apology, not the other way around.
Apr 02, 2009 10:40
@Jimboclaire: And don't you ever tell us that he didn't made a single mistake in his article.
Apr 02, 2009 10:42
@omniknight: You mean Mr. Tsao (not Mr. Liao)?
:)
Apr 02, 2009 11:02
the writer who is so nationalistic but so insensitive with regards to the feelings of people of the country he enjoys criticising. did he ever forgot that he is actually enjoying the work of competence of the servant from the philippines. where can you find a servant with a degree to show to his employer. there are also chinese women who are working as servants maybe in other countries.they are not just as popular as the filipina because these chinese servants are not college graduate, they are not degree holder. because they cannot afford a good education and they are not as hard working and intelligent as the filipinas. they could hardly speak english. poor poor chinese servants. no brains, no talents. i ask the writer to visit the philippines. here he can actually see and hear that even a taxi driver can speak fluent english. because thay are college graduates. they may not be rich but they have good education. what about the chinese. only the rich can go to colege. and the rest. well, they just stay at home and end up as servants to their husbands. how pathetic.
Apr 02, 2009 12:05
@jimbo claire, sir, you have no any single right to manipulate one's prejudices (whether it's obstinate) especially if it's all about our nation's dignity is being declined by 'someone' who we don't even share the same blood running through our veins. A blood from our noble, patriotic heroes who taught us to serve, protect our country in any simple way that we can, and yes, this is the simplest thing we can do for our beloved motherland who has been conquered many times yet its stars and sun, with fervour burning in our chest, still reamains.
MISTER, ANY MEAN PREJUDICE OR DISCRIMINATION BASED UPON RACE is called RACISM, and a person who does RACISM is called RACIST! Of what "technique" he used to call Philippines went unpleasant to our ears and truly disgust FIlipinos around the world, instead should used right-wing words/terms to mean whatever he wants to convey us. Calling such to Philippines, what do you think he wants to convey to his readers, MISTER? As a responsible, educated writer he should have thought of that. Where's your way of thinking there?
And yes, we Filipinos are peace-loving! But with some folks who have issues and attitude? We arent fool just to sit down in the corner acting like nothing's happening,. What do you think sir? We give them what they just deserve. And hell no! We don't owe him our apologies. We will reamain on our posts.
I regret that I have but one life to give for my country.
Philippines desreve nothing but the best. We serve not just our country but the whole world, and with that "we" are part of any progress the world can have.
Mister, remember we reigned over the past conquerors of our country through a single pen of our hero. You want us to use our keyboards now, instead? May God bless you!

To starsandsun MABUHAY!(Long live)Even though you are at jimboclaire's country,my parents, sister and her family, you are still proud that you are born here in the PEARL OF THE ORIENT SEAS!Anyway,Chip Tsao's (FYI:To Kit,his pseudonym) article had a counterpart there.Remember the song adaptation of "Puff the Magic Dragon" song entitled "BARACK THE MAGIC NEGRO?"Rush Limbaugh (US syndicated radio host, and was held under rehabilitation) defended the song that he played in his radio show prior to the Iowa caucuses, that this is just a parody sung by Paul Shanklin, and don't have racist intent. That is the semblance of HK Magazine's excuse.
Apr 02, 2009 15:09
@Jimbo: Funny, when was your opinion fact? Slap in my face? Quiet Immature and Rude comment. I think use insulting metaphore shows your respect towards anyone else.
Wow, so writing insulting comments at Jerry Liao doesn't show conflict? Using terms like Jokes of the week? Is hardly constructive criticism. I think the only one needs growing up is you. For Christian Pastor you're quiet arrogant and narrow-minded.
The whole group? You wrote about not being about Flipino Bashing. Now you're critising people. How hypocritical. Somehow I don't see you ever serving Pinoy community.
Now I'm guilty? Interesting. So If I talk to a mentally unstable person, and not like it. I'm guilty? How does that work.
I think you own people here apoligy. You're insensitivity and crass attitude are not called for here. If you we interested in looking your so-called percieve writer POV, you don't go blaming and insulting people who feel they've been insullt. It's quiet horrible thing to do, especially for Christian Pastor.
Apr 02, 2009 19:15
@Jimbo: Stop sending me Mail, with personal insults.
Apr 02, 2009 19:21
mr. chip tsao ! you are just one of the most ignorant people on the planet !! and i can tell you, here in the states, are more than enough chinese working as 'maids' ! so - better think before you speak !
Apr 02, 2009 20:01
First of all...i thought this issue is too small..and more of a political one. People who make big things on small things are small-minded. Many Chinese are very warm and friendly..however when i came to China a Chinese stole my wallet with all my cards and license, and cell phone. Why is that so? He probably needed to survive. At least, Filipinos in HK who are housekeepers don't do that. To be a housekeeper isn't something to look down. We are proud of whatever we do..when we do it right..and with all respect...
Mr. Tsao...think and consider before putting things into words.
Try to go to the Philippines and you will see there are too many Chinese there..How do Filipinos treat them? See it for yourself!
Writers should know what and how to put things together..We called that Ethics!
More power to the Philippines.
Apr 02, 2009 21:10
i tried to check the meaning of the name Chip and found nothing... There's only Chang, Chao, Chen, Chong, Chun... does it mean that he tried to go Western and used Chip... or what he meant to call himself was Cheap....
Apr 03, 2009 02:48
My mom's prejudice (telling me to post it here for her) about this malicious point of view not just Tsip Chao's but also to those folks trying to make sense yet has nothing to prove here...
"Let me save the best for last...
Topic by topic, let me tackle this lost columnist's malicious article on the Filipino people.
Talk about the Russians - how can you possibly look up to this race as your so-called "ideological mentors" when it came straight from your rotten mouth that they just killed 7 of your kind? You can live with that?-sends me a signal that it's not a "life" that you have. And the Japanese? It's strange that for very SHALLOW reasons, you can let go of such serious matter like taking away a portion of your beloved country.
So what's with Spratly Islands which you referred to as "scattered rocks..."? Common sense tells me not to say anything more on this. Instead, heed this: No living person in this world is not a servant to anyone, or even if it's to anything, you're still a servant by any name. Only God is the master in this whole universe - at least for us God-loving, God-fearing Filipinos. At least, our OFW's work with
dignity, swallowing their pride for the noblest reasons - to give their families a decent kind of life. At least we do not brag of maltreating, abusing or maligning collectively any race in the world - much less using multi-channel media. And we do not threaten and take advantage of people who are in less-fortunate situations, in the same shout-out-loud-publicly manner that you did. And oh yes, you need some blood-boiling because obviously your brain has been frozen causing it to think unclearly, or not to think at all, I stand corrected.
Lastly, my saving.....
We Filipinos have been collectively maligned for more reasons than we can count on our fingers - either because we are "economically poor" or we do not look perfect or we are home to most of the cockroaches, flies, rats etc. that can ever be found in the world. But if we can help it, we can be sweet-smelling, can wear neatly-ironed clothes (oh yes again, if there's one thing you should really take time out to reprimand your domestic assistant of, it's that suit you're wearing in one of your public pictures which she should have carefully ironed - really, it looked like you had it straight from the laundry basket. Or did you really make her too busy washing your toilet and cleaning your windows everyday for 16 hrs.?) UNBELIEVABLE! Does China labor laws allow that, actually? Or are there labor laws in your country at all? Just asking....
And what more can some Chinese people, not swallow? - miserable, almost-shattered lives caused by the illegal drugs which they spearhead in manufacturing in the Philippines. Of course, the multi-million-peso earnings sound sweet to the palate, I mean the pockets, ain't it?
None of this is about the Spratly Islands. The dispute over this "scattered rocks..." should be dealt with by proper government authorities of the 2 rival nations and the writer irresponsibly voiced his personal opinions over matters not concerning what was supposed to be his main topic. Such a pathetic attempt and now it's him who's going to need to summon the Russians to "mentor" him on how to defend his ideology. "
@jimboclaire, hope this will educate your mind somehow and let not your mind be frozen as well...
Apr 03, 2009 05:54
It hurts, right? Don't sit around, do something about it. If you forget the personality who wrote this and look at this in a factual way, is it not true? Do you know how the Filipinas are treated in Japan? They are considered cheap and wasteful women? Even the cats and dogs in Japan are honored better than the poor Filipina ladies. Who is to be blamed? Not Chinese or Japanese but the Philipinos themselves. Protect your women and children.
Take the example of the Sri Lankan President. He eradicated the export of housemaids of Sri Lanka to the middle east. These women were used as sex workers of a different nature. It was a severe blow to our cultural and religious heritage. So our President single-handedly stopped this non-sense. Some journalist from China, need not say this. He has to first look at what his country women are doing? I hope he will write something that will stir up the emotions of those Chinese ladies!
Apr 03, 2009 14:10
Everyone or every Filipino had their blood boil when reading the "as nation of servants", but to this "I summoned Louisa, my domestic assistant who holds a degree in international politics from the University of Manila, hung a map on the wall, and gave her a harsh lecture. I sternly warned her that if she wants her wages increased next year, she had better tell everyone of her compatriots in Statue Square on Sunday that the entirety of the Spratly Islands belongs to China."
First, all the nations are servant and that's fact. So the diplomats who made this article box office should just answered the HK also is a nation of servants. siting the fact thet we all serve other people.
Second, where my blood boils, he had used his power over Louisa for ego power tripping. If I was Luisa, I should have reported it (him) to the company HR for grave mis-conduct and abuse of power (if that exis't in their comapny). For me, that's unacceptable. He's not the only had a right to be patriotic!
Apr 03, 2009 14:28
I am not contended of his apology? Servant is a sacred word? That may be sacred for you, but the way you used servant in the sentence does not imply sacredness.
as a nation of servants, you don't flex your muscles at your master
where's civil servant there? how about servant of God? Can you even understand what you said? you may be our employer but you're not our master. we work, you pay. equivalent trade. you need our services, we need your money. that's a common employer and employee relationship, right?
now you're aware that you crossed the line? you are aware the moment you write that article. any journalist always thinks of the consequences first before sending their writings. you insulted us on purpose. is it because you have more money than us? or your envious of the Filipinos who are better than you?
ask every Filipino, they will not accept your apology.
Apr 03, 2009 15:14
Servants of the world listen up, get out of our spratly islands now! Its chinese terrority do you understand uh!
Else sooner or later our great nation of china will come to exterminate you together with those filthy pigs of indonesia.
Apr 04, 2009 14:01
It also makes my blood boils up, not that he calls the Philippines as Nation of Servants, I cant blame him for that. Im sure that is how he treats his Filipina maid. No wonder being a patriotic Chinese, feeling superior over the other Asian people, what could a poor Filipinos be better than a High Profile Chinese like him, the country of business Icons, the Shopping Paradise. In conclusion, Mr Tsao just cant face the fact that this country of servants who used to clean their toilets and get paid for a less amount of money could hinder their claims over Spratleys. I guess this is the right time to enlighten Chinese people of equal rights and racial discriminations, specially for a well known columnist like Tsao.
Apr 04, 2009 16:09
Hey! Hey! Please hold on! This racist guy, Cheap Tsao is not Chinese! Ok. If you dun believe me, you can ask Cheap Tsao himself. I dare he will deny he is Chinese. So dun blame Chinese about this event. It is nothing to do with Chinese! In fact, we Chinese fully support you Filipinos to condemn this rubbish Hong Kong writer! We Chinese will happy to see you Filipinos help us to swept this rubbish guy out of the earth!
Apr 05, 2009 02:29
There is no one else to blame but us, Filipinos...
Heres why....
1.) ERAP.
2.) Re-elected Arroyo.
and we are talking about the President of the country...
How about the Senators, Mayors, Governors, Congressman and Barangay kagawads.
We are corrupt from top to bottom... The only mistake that Chip Tsao made is that he made his comment public, that was stupid. If he would personally speak to a Filipino about what he thinks about us than we might actually agree that we should not even claim an Island since we cannot even take care of our own.
There millions out there like Chip Tsao, filipinos are treated like disposable diapers especially in the Middle East but they don't care, they want to earn and accept the fact that we cant do anything about it because our government including those who are working as clerks in Philippine Embassies or Consulates worldwide are rude, unprofessional at higit sa lahat "MAYABANG".
We all as the same question...
Who can save us?
The answer: TAYO!

..."The only mistake that chip Tsao made is that he made his comment public....." to quote you Busacay.
Please take note of the word "only". I hope you go through his article again - learn how to read , understand and count based from from the shots he wrote. Try to "get" also what he tried to imply as a "patriotic chinese" towards filipino servants.
Indeed you promoted his article by "adding insult to the injury" which does not make any sense to what his article was saying. It was no help at all to your struggling race... to your poor home.
I say: You were disoriented and out of focus to what everybody out here were trying to point out.
Probably, for a hopeless and spiritless non-entity like you, nothing would help disentangle Filipinos from a sinking country.
Please do not overflow your thinking that you can only talk of bad attitudes in the Philippines...There's more, even worst, in other countries. I hope you can travel more and realize "it's not all about Filipinos".
Even Nokia connects people - i hope you can connect yourself with your own race.
Apr 10, 2009 20:35
I hope that many will react to this matter like Busacay rather than have an attitude of 'feel sorry for us, Fillipinos'. Forget what other people say. Who cares? Who cares about Tsao, or his ancestry or his condescending attitude. He is just another character trying to make money to pay some one from another nation because he is lazy and useless. If some human right organisation notice this, some interesting things will happen to him for treating anyone like that. Besides that, Filipinos stop giving those sad stories like, giving a better life to the families by making themselves cheap and selling their bodies. If my mother did something like that to bring me up, I will not accept that. I want my mother to have self-respect and dignity. She need not work for some lazy person from any rich country to make that money. How many countries have resources like you do? What are your ladies going to do when the recession gets serious and those Japanese or Arabs cannolt afford to pay? You want to end up as their slaves? Need advise to resolve this issue, meet the President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapakse. Sri Lanka is a small island too and we are not as rich as you. War, starvation, unemployment etc etc. But we will always be a nation of proud and dignified people!!!! So return home and manage with what you have. Working as maids and other related jobs is a very lazy way of making money! How can you earn respect from other nations?
Apr 05, 2009 09:29
Mr. Tsao, You just called us a "Nation of Servants"!!!!
Now our hearts are full of anger because of an irresponsible article made by an irresponsible man. I'm talking about you and your careless thinking. Wise men should always think twice before they open their mouths. Just for your information, there are lots of chinese here in the Philippines who are involved in heinous crimes such as Smuggling, Drug Trafficking, Illegal Aliens,etc... but inspite of all that, we still treat them with respect, because we filipinos are a nation of peace.
Anyway, could you please help me with my assignment?
Where did SARS come from?
Who uses a harmful MELAMINE for food?
Which country has the most numbers of DRUG TTRAFFICKING?
KASAMAK
Apr 05, 2009 22:06
So immature, abrasive, dull, ignorant and spiritless how other filipinos would "add insult to the injury"...slamming Philippines already in kiaugh. While it is understood that every country has its own political, economic, social, religious and cultural hullabaloos, let one country keek on his versal territory and yak among themselves whatever qualms they have. When the time comes that a country becomes "credible" to question, malign and teach another country, then I say, AMEN. But to kowtow and to excuse Tsao (worse, to claim that we owe him apologies) for such an irresponsible journalism by way of indocrinating (haha) Filipinos of their own story of "corruption, prostitution, drug trafficking, erap, arroyo and all"...hey, that's stupid and funny! Please do not scrape off yourself from the fact that you are still a filipino and please, do not appear so atypical and washed when you have not become a contributory material to resolve these exasperating knots, which are even worst in other countries. This ado has been for years, in the name of the Freedom of the Press, dragged in to the general populace already. But if you insist, then let us decamp from other races and yak among ourselves within our bailwick whatever monstrosity we see in our own home as how other countries should mind their own business. You are vaguely foreshadowing Tsao's issue with another issue. That is irrelevant to what Tsao had clearly brought not only to the Filipino readers, but also to other nations including his own race. Even the not-so-sensitive homo sapien, or should I say, the egg-headed and the "slow" would understand what made Tsao's article acetous in the minds of the concerned. Remember, we would not have said an azygous word to Tsao and to whatever links him had he not disturbed Filipinos who are down on their knees praying that with whatever goodness and relentless spirit is left for every Filipino, Philippines would battle it out. A proud Filipina, I remain.
Apr 10, 2009 19:09
To hmmmm....
Thanks for your useless comments?
My advice to you (for free): Avoid using terms that would make readers have their dictionaries out just to understand your simple point... The funny thing is that you think that you speak like you really know whats going on but you showed more of your "kayabangan".
Its all about you. Not Filipinos...
You can use all the fancy terms that you want, or you could share about your trips and different cultures that youv'e met but you are simply "Ignorant".
And yet you use the name "hmmm" because you are ashamed of who you really are....
Busacay is my last name. A true filipino from the Cordillieras. Who are you?
Apr 11, 2009 02:04
Busacay, I wonder if hmmmm can understand exactly what he/she was saying. No coherence. This person seems to be proud about the name Philipines has earned. Maybe, we can sponsor hmmm to travel to Japan to see how the filipinos demean themselves to "support their families" and ruin the family lives of Japanese women. Everyone knows that they are faking but who would not want something so "cheap"?
Apr 11, 2009 07:49
By the way, Busacay, dont get exasperated with my highly flown bombastic words (they're few though) - everybody is entitled to use words which would help them express their opinion. If you understand , fine; if you dont, leave it (there's always a way to get the thought) ...just like how you want us to leave Tsao issue for teaching filipinos the "who cares" attitude. This is in the same manner that I dont make it as a reason to argue another comment just because it is grammatically fructured...like probably yours.
Apr 11, 2009 11:50
To Busacay : Again, YOU ARE VAGUELY FORESHADOWING TSAO ISSUE WITH ANOTHER ISSUE (this time talking about my profile name-had to do with Tsao?). I suggest (for free also) to go back to Tsao's issue. FOCUS.
Please be informed that you need not sponsor me a travel to Japan (but I would get that as an opportunity)because I have been exactly there to cover the lives of OFWs. I was a former Journalist of a national newspaper and I had my piece of condemning issues in the Philippines - even worse than your fault finding talent ..publicized.
To genesisserene: If you think that I 'am proud about the name Philippines has earned" , again, I would say: yes I am, at least for some of my race who have values left in their hearts, and to quote starsandsun: "for swallowing their pride for the noblest reasons" (in COHERENCE to Tsao's issue). Please make it clear in your comments that you are otherwise.
Again, go back to Tsao issue. FOCUS
Or you can separately talk about all the mess in the Philippines and the Filipinos abroad, and act like a sophomore activist.
By the way, Busacay, did you run to your shelf to get a dictionary? Hmmmm.
My last comment to you. No point of arguing your sense.
Apr 11, 2009 11:24
to hmmm:
To be honest, I cant do anything about it to change whatever Tsao said because its true and it is not based on assumptions. What can you do about it? Can your fancy words make a change or just confuse us Filipino's? If you want to focus about Tsao, why dont you just simply comment on what he said and not comment on what others said. You are not better than any of us just because you think that you are well-versed. The fact that you are hiding your name and makes me think that you are a coward and ashamed of yourself too...
I am not, so are the others.
I have treated Tsao's comments is an eye opener. It says "Degree Holder katulong sa abroad". How desperate is that? It means we cannot produce jobs because our government is CORRUPT!!!
And hmmm... I checked the dictionary ONLINE (stupid) because I dont know most of the words youv'e used. I hate to say this but some of the words that youv'e used are misspelled and inappropriate. Again it shows your 'KAYABANGAN na may halong KATANGAHAN'.
Better check them again and correct your mistakes Idiot!
Apr 11, 2009 19:42
Busacay - You cant really get over with the comment of Hmmm huh (yearned for you to look for the dictionary on-line or to the shelf hahaha). With all due respect to Hmmm, her comment was brilliant and literate too. I dont think you have the right to question usage of her words because you dont understand them in the first place. I am just an average person but i got the thought Hmmm was trying to impart.
YOU WILL REALLY NEVER UNDERSTAND Hmmmm BECAUSE YOU NEVER UNDERSTOOD WHAT TSAO MEANT IN HIS ARTICLE....IN THE FIRST PLACE!
I second the motion Hmmm, Busacay , you were out of focus. Everybody here were talking about Chip Tsao while you keep on talking about arroyo, erap, the govt.etc. by , right Hmmmm, "adding insult to the injury". Shame on you.
Oh, you are so proud that your comment was an eye opener huh, so who is mayabang and tanga? Nobody here has lifted a chair for his/her article. Where did you borrow your confidence? Mispelled words are sometimes committed due to typographical error and are forgivable, but those who are senseless and who cannot fix his grammar like you , long way to go.
Im afraid when you asked Hmmm "Who are you?", she would have mentioned her credentials, affiliation, status in life and what she has done to uplift the morale of our race (where I think you dont belong). ..at least just like anybody here (except you), in their personal way.
Long way to go.
Apr 12, 2009 08:16
To hmmm and JuanMaria whom i believed who is the same person. Hahaha... Do you really have to login to a different name just to get back at me? That is way below desperate...
I want to ask just one of the many questions that are left unanswered to hmmm and her alter ego JuanMaria:
Regarding Chip Tsao's comment, what can you do about it?
Apr 12, 2009 13:51

By the way, i hope you stop doing blatant comments to OFWs and other Filipinos. Life is a choice. Life is how we make it. And if there's no more relevant you can say about the MAIN issue, stop throwing indescent words such as "idiot". It only showed that you had nothing good to say and you're incapable of arguing majority of the people here who only speak in behalf of the Filipinos.
Please note that issues on erap, arroyo, prosititution, drug trafficking etc. here in the Phiippines are not new to us...you need not support Chip TSao to be oooooh, so concerned to make it "an eye opener".
Hmmm is right, these issues have been exposed to the public already by the Press. So, dont struggle too much discussing them.
Apr 12, 2009 09:09
Yes, we choose how we want to live our lives. If according to some Filipinos the choice made by OFWs is right, then please go on living that way. It could be something to do with the Genetics and DNA. But just remember that even for some non-filipinos it is rather painful to hear derogatory comments about Filipinos on a daily basis. Good luck hmmm and his friends.
Apr 12, 2009 10:21
genesisserene.> i admire your getting back with a gentleman comment (unlike busacay who does not have anything beautiful to say anymore) . that person is just wasting time to argue Hmmmm and others personally (di man nya kilala) who actually left the page. Now, your opinios are respected because you are back to the issue (as how that Hmmmm was trying to point out) .
Thanks for saying lesser harsh words to filipinos because they already have many of that.
Busacay> please be guided that you cannot use a different user name with the same log in I.D. The system will not allow.
I am not Juanmaria or Hmmm, I repeat, I am not them. Dont be so desperate to think that way just to strike back. I support Hmmm and the rest you go back to the issue and check if you still have wise words to say .mukhang pikon ka na kc eh :). Goodluck sir/mam genesisserene.
Apr 12, 2009 15:16
To Genesis Serene, I am sorry if I have not included your name during our discussion/argument with hmmmm. I have read from your profile that you are from Sri Lanka and I am not sure if you are a filipino or a Sri Lankan.
Please understand that I have treated this issue with extreme sensitivity and I wanted to avoid other race to be included and further complicate the subject. I know that some people like hmmmm will not understand it and she might say things that would embarass us Filipinos.
God Bless you....
Apr 12, 2009 23:20
oops, sori hmmmm... i was supposed to use hmmm2.....hahahaha....
Apr 12, 2009 15:19
I have not insulted you yet. I could easily insult you kse youv'e made a lot of obvious mistakes / pagpapanggap pero I would rather say that Chip Tsao issue is not dead for me. I will remember that for the rest of my life.
Nakakalito ka naman e. Akala ko ba galit na galit ka at Uber Patriotic ka. Tapos ng konting dakdak at ok ka na...
Apr 12, 2009 23:57
Mr./Ms. Hmmm, i apology for the error. Sorry po for whatever it will cause this page. No intention to harm you po.
Apr 12, 2009 15:52
To my cousin Hmmm2 : Please say no more. Dont be ashamed to tell that you are a relative .
***While Hmmm2 has presumed that he has signed up, his comment was posted using my notebook without signing me out.
My apologies to everybody. I remain.
Apr 12, 2009 16:31
I am as well not signing him out and posting this with his user id (does not matter). I hope you get to buy your own notebook :)
Apr 12, 2009 16:41
by the way busacay, while everybody was done with Chip Tsao (well, he's had enough except from you) , pasensya na my cousin hmmmm cannot answer your chao questions anymore because the issue has already died a natural death. Out of focus ka nga. Tnx Juanmaria. Goodbye.
Apr 12, 2009 17:12
I think thats the longest, messiest "Touche" that I have ever heard/seen...
To hmmmm and her alter egos: I haven't insulted you yet. I only spoke the truth and I know that it is demeaning and it caused you to say or do things without even thinking. You expect all Filipinos to react against Tsao's article the same way you did. Meron pa ngang "papakulam daw, sana makulong daw, sana mabugbog ni Pacquiao". Is that what you want? But how can we benefit from those actions? Like I said, maraming kagaya ni Tsao at di lahat ng yun e bubugbugin just to make us temporarily feel better... It is not solving anything.
Nakakalungkot....

I am reminded this weekend how the leaders of the Temple so misunderstood the message of Jesus that they perceived him as a threat and had him killed in cold-blooded physical murder on the cross.
I am reminded because the same thing has happened to some so-called leader in the Philippines who has so misunderstood the message of Chip Tsao that he/she also perceived Tsao as a threat and had him symbolically murdered with a travel ban.
""Hong Kong writer uses Filipino context to bash Chinese attitudes."
This is what Jerry Liao should have titled this column if he knew what he what was talking about. But he doesn't, so he didn't .....
The Chip Tsao satirical article was bashing Chinese, not Filipinos. It's sad, really, the level of ignorance about the article!! Isn't there a single expert in literature amongst you all? Or do you enjoy this crucifixion too much to examine your own hearts?
Well, in your defense, it can be argued that many of the Jews really believed they were doing the right and good thing.
I blame this on the first person who misunderstood Tsao's article and passed along his ignorant viewpoint to the long chain of "assistant managers" to spread the ignorance further. (Jerry Liao in this case.)
What a great article Chip Tsao wrote! I especially enjoyed the way he placed the perceived status of hard-working Filipinos above that of the bullying Chinese.
I thank God he has opened my eyes to the truth of this article. Think I'll read it again now ....
May God bless China and the Philippines always!.
Amen.
Apr 13, 2009 01:01
Jimboclare, its satire right?.... is that your point?....
Please try not to think that we dont understand youve been trying to say or what the article is all about.
We are Filipinos, there are a lot of issues not just in HK about Filipino OFW who are treated like garbage that you dont even know about.
Please do not call us ignorant if we felt anger and hatred about Tsao's article.
We have been silent for so many years and we still are. Allow us just to express even in writing what we feel about us this issue. About other Masters or Employers who treats their pets better than their Filipinos.
We are tired, but we cant do anything. We have to support so many back home.
You cannot hear us cry at night, complain about our aches and pains, you never felt what its like to see a loved one who's been supporting us for so many years going home in a box.
I say, we demand a little respect. A little sensitivity for the likes of Chip Tsao.
I have been encouraging a lot of Filipinos to at least try not to think of this article as something that would make them feel lower than we already are. Yet hear you are Christian Pastor Jimboclare, calling us ignorant and forcing us to forget about it. You have no idea. We cannot even afford to send someone in our Family as a pastor and help spread the teachings of our God because we need all the help we can get.
There is no better life at the other side of the Red Sea. Just more pains and sufferings. You cant save us all. Not this way....
Apr 13, 2009 14:13
So guys, they say we have misunderstood Tsao's satirical piece. But isn't it the author's job to see to it that readers do not misunderstand the point? So as to it being satirical in form: it's either the author is not good at it, thus the misunderstanding, or it's just used as an excuse. Another and more popular form of satire is the "Saturday Night Live." When SNL did a satire on Palin we all understood that it was not meant to ridicule or laugh at someone else other than Palin. So did Tsao write about the Filipinos to insult the Chinese? Hmmm....
And regarding Jesus being "perceived" as a threat by the Jews, the message of the "Triumphal Entry," for example, conveys in a dramatic way a message of rebellion, albeit non-violent, and an ordinary Jew perfectly understood it as such, thus the the penalty of crucifixion (technically and legally not "murder") that, good for us, secured our salvation. You may read about my homily on the "Triumphal Entry" online at www.saintsincity.org.
Apr 14, 2009 05:30
Maybe it's a satire. Maybe it's not. But how would we know? None of us is an expert in literary (literature?) forms. Don't worry, it's OK to be ignorant because you can go to this tech site and be told again and again that a piece is a satire... but without telling you what makes a piece a satire? Maybe it's a secret knowledge. But if he tells us the secret knowledge, would you and I, from the nation of servants understand? Hmmm.... So, I asked another expert. I bribed him...shh.... Wanna know what I learned? I learned that a satire can have a double entendre (big word, huh?). So, could it be that Tsao was bashing both Filipinos and Chinese? Oh, no! Tsao could end up like a castaway in a tiny island! And no maid there! Talk about a Chinese Tom Hanks! But we're not gonna sell him one of our 7,100 islands, OK? Don't tell him we have those islands, it's our secret. Shh.... OK,I repent. We'll take him in. But let's put him in Binondo where he could sell taho! Sarap yata 'yon!:))

I wanted to curteously leave this discussion but the comments are making me really voice my sincere feelings. I am a Sri Lankan working for Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Everyday at work and at social gatherings, I hear such racist comments about Filipinos. I have been educated in Europe and travelled to a number of countries. I have seen a Philipino doctor being laughed at and given demeaning work by 'Russians' and others. When African customers complain to the Japanese exporters about missing items in their consignments, the Japanese agents say that it is the Filipinos working in the Ships that steal!! And I am not going to discuss here about the marriage of convenience between the Japanese aged men and young Filipinas. Then there is a popular dating site run by a Chinese man who has changed his name to a Filipino name!! The dating site lets young Filipina women married to rich old Japanese men to find younger not so rich Japanese men! And guess what, the dating site donates to the World Food Program.
I am an average human being, and my blood certainly boils when I encounter these situations. Busacay, I am sure there are many like you who really want this situation to change. I commend your boldness and your sensitivity to this issue. Keep up your good work. I am touched by your comments.
I wish so much that, rather than lash out each other with their opinions and jouranlistic styles ( who said that racist comments are allowed in journalism with satire?) something more realistic could be done.
Apr 13, 2009 18:10
Busacay, do you prefer dwelling on imaginary negative issues and twisting others words to create something destructive? Right, I didn't think so!
So why don't you instead prefer to dwell on the FACT that Chip Tsao was not being derogatory about Filipinos in his article?
Why do you insist on bearing false witness about this innocent man? Why won't you at least try to understand that in his satirical way he was making the same point that all of you are trying to make, that racist attitudes are not good?
As a Christian pastor, I'm just trying to let the truth win out here about Chip Tsao's article, but nobody wants to listen. We all know how hard the life of a migrant worker is. Is that an excuse for defaming Chip Tsao? Well .... is it?? Two wrongs make a right?
My point is this, Busacay, to Genisisirene, and to all others, sorry, but there are no racist comments in Chip Tsao's article. You are not allowed to make people's satirical comments about other's racist comments to become racist themselves. Do you understand yet? Hmm? What you are doing is calling Chip Tsao a racist because he's calling China racist! That's absurd! That would be the same as calling you a racist because you called Chip Tsao a racist!!!!!!!!!!!
In other words, just because you don't understand his article doesn't mind his article is the problem. In fact, Gerry Liao's article is the problem, not Chip Tsao's, because it is not truthful, and has poisoned the minds of many here.
And that's why I keep harping on the SATIRE aspect here ... it is the most crucial element in the understanding process here. If you can't understand it, you really shouldn't be in this discussion.
Want to do something realistic this minute, then educate yourselves about satire, and pray more, especially for the enemies of the church, and those that rant against truth.
I'm curious, because I haven't kept up very well ... has Gerry Liao apologized yet for defaming Chip Tsao here? He stated about being a peaceful man ... can he walk the walk as well talk the talk? Apologize for the wrongs you have committed, sir, and ask for forgiveness. You will be healed.
Amen.
Apr 14, 2009 05:22
Are you really a pastor? I hope God enlighten you. Are you internalizing what you are teaching based on the Bible. Does humility, gentleness or compassion ring a bell in you (as a Christian pastor)? You seem so extreme. ahihihi..
Apr 22, 2009 11:23
The chinese call us nation of servant..................... Pinoys call them A nation of syndicates..... They smuggle goods, sell fake Items, smuggle illeal drugs and hire children to become beggars or fighters. Isn't that A nation of syndicates?
Apr 17, 2009 09:00
Its true that what Chip said was blatantly wrong in every sense but what puzzles me is why this issue is discussed on a tech side. Sorry i dont think this discussion belong to a topic called
'Understanding Tech Issues with Reliable Vision of Innovation
by Jerry Liao, Philippines'
lets put politics aside and talk about tech.
May 03, 2009 02:02
The folking Chinese wants to grab land everywhere around them. It is not enought= that they stole Tibet, parts of Ladakh, Taiwan and want more. They want islands belonging to the Pinoys, want Arunachal Pradesh, want Taiwan.
Land grabbing communist bullies.

I just left both China and the Philippines. There is a marked differance in the character of both peoples, due to governmental influence. Filipinos enjoy great freedom, and are indeed "American's best friend' ...and you can bet... that we will be more than happy to defend their interests :) :) China is a land replete with fear, dominated by anti-godism, a land of police and brutality and repression. On the surface it glitters, yet rots underneath with shame. It's precious people have been demoralized by Maoism, and they hunger for religious freedom. The Philippines though, is aland of people that protects religiosu liberties wit passion..much like the United States. Make no mistake, the Filipinos and Americas kicked the crap out of "the Empire of Japan" while Mao ran in fear. Rest assured, the US Pacific Fleet is in the area for very good reason :) And talk about servants...if the USA didnt' buy Chinese products..the economy would collapse. Nope we ALL need to be servants of King Jesus..and one day every knee will bow to HIM. Evan "Chairman Mao" wil be taken from Hell to confess Jesus Christ as Lord (Revelation 20:10-15). Mr Tsao..you too will one day...on your kness I might add..beg the King of all Kings..for mercy. HUMMMMM..who will be the winner then, sporty? Certainly not Communism, not Mao, not Lenin..not YOU. Those who mock now, wil watch as you are judged as the Christless pitiful person you are, and your butt is judged..then thrown into eternal Hellfire! Laugh now..burn later. So who wil be the loser then? Soon..very soon...you wil see many things happen in your life. Pray is teh strongest weapon in this Universe..and now..."Lord Jesus we pray for this arrogant "man" taht you wil humble him to the dirt..no matter what it takes. Inflict pain, cause bodily damge, hurt him in any way necessary, as YOU defend your people, and we pray this in the Almighty Name of Jesus Christ..King of all Kings." Mr Tsao....soon..soon...it wil happen. Do yo even know waht an imprecatory prayer is. You will..now go read Jeremiah 33:3. The read II Thess.1 Soon mister..soon..you will have more problems that you can imagine..and all of your arrogance, money and pride wil avail you nothing :) KING Jesus IS LORD..and YOU'LL find out!
Nov 23, 2009 15:53
Yep..those coments about Filipinos were godless.. soon Mr Hotshot..soon..you will reap what you've sown. "Jesus loves the little children is much more than a song" it's "Heavenly policy" and YOU violated that principle. Soon..you'll be disased..not pretty what will happen. The LORD of Hosts wil rebuke you, like he did Pharoah, rip you like he did Assyrian Kings, tear you down like he did satanic strongholds. You will be expsed for what you've done...in a myriad of ways. Life will be pure hell..then..then..YOU Christ-rejector...YOU wil go there..what a sad future for you.."Mr Arrogance" "How are the mighty fallen...." Soon..many bad thins wil happen...think, remember...soon..YOU wil reap what you've sown :) Soon. Yep you're smiling..a coverup. Soon you'll see your world fall apart..little painful, hurt-filed pieces . :) Mister..never mock God Almighty and never ever ever..hurt His kids :) YOU are truly beyond dumb :)
Nov 23, 2009 15:59
Racist! Insensitive! Arrogant!
Has he been banned for life from entering the Phils? He shud be. Just like any other personality who mocks our country and our fellowmen!
You can shove you apology up your behind!
