HP Philippines offers SaaS-like printing services to address economic crisis
Mar 16, 2009 17:00Just came from a press conference organized by HP Philippines where it presented its latest products and services to help address the ongoing economic crisis. The idea of HP helping customers is not just to assist their clients in cutting cost, but to do more for less. One of the HP executives mentioned that it is about spending smarter.
Aside from energy efficiency, lower cost of printers and toners, one of the innovative offerings of HP is called Smart Print Services (SPS) where clients are billed based on their usage. The concept is like Software as a Service (SaaS) where the application is hosted somewhere and users are charged based on their usage or number of seats.
In SPS, clients will just pay a monthly rate and HP, through its partners, will take care of the rest--printers, toners, repairs, maintenance and all other things needed to keep the printer in tip-top shape. This strategy will enable customers to lower their Capex (capital expenditures), while at the same time manage their Opex (operating expenses).
Worldwide, the service is called managed print service (MPS).
The minimum duration of the contract is three years, but if the client requires a machine upgrade, the request will be accommodated.
