Sony Xperia X2--HTC no more
Jan 1, 2009 00:17How true is the rumor that Sony Ericsson won't be commissioning HTC to manufacture the second version of SE Xperia dubbed "Xperia 2"? The decision not to include HTC asone of the candidates was due to the reported disatisfaction of Sony Ericsson over the design of the Xperia X1. Sony Ericsson is reportedly in talks with Pegatron Technology (a manufacturing arm of Asustek for manufacturing the new handset) and Mobinnova (a handset maker under Foxconn International Holdings).
During the launch of HTC Diamond here in the Philippines, I was already asking HTC officials about the design of the Xperia X1. At that time, HTC officials refused to provide any answers pertaining to the Xperia X1 except that they were in close collaboration with Sony Ericsson insofar as making the handset was concerned.

What could have been wrong with the design of the SE Xperia X1? Two things: One was the keypad, the second was the weight. I found the keypad too small. The phone was a bit heavy as well. I also found the operating system (Windows Mobile 6.1) a bit slow. Of course, this is more Microsoft's turf than Sony Ericsson or HTC's.

SE Xperia 2 will still run Windows Mobile (6.5 perhaps). I do hope the company will be able to produce the phone that it wants to achieve. Consumers want the best and they deserve to have the best.
God bless us all!

I have to admit that when I first saw the X1 I started to reconsider my aversion to WM but upon seeing it in profile I sighed in relief. I am a huge Sony Ericsson fan because of SE's sleek designs and very intuitive UIs but the X1 left me wanting so much more especially when you realize what SE could've done with it.
It would be interesting to see SE's take on the Android mOS and I do hope the next Xperia runs on that instead of WM.

@devlin, slingswish: Initial reports indicated that X2 will still run Windows Mobile. I hope the reports are wrong but if it's not, then I hope its going to be Windows Mobile 6.5 by then.
Sony Ericsson said the initial SE Android products will be from the âhigher segmentâ when it becomes available in the middle of next year. Higher segment he said...mmm.. Xperia belongs to the higher segment right? Or does it belong to the highest segment? Thanks.
