Acer Aspire One arrives in the Philippines

Acer has announced its entry into the low-cost subnotebook market--the Aspire One. Let's go to the specifications right away:

  • Intel Atom @ 1.6Ghz

  • 8.9-inch LED-backlit 1,024 x 600 screen

  • 512MB of RAM

  • Linupus Lite OS

  • 8GB of SSD

  • SD card reader (five types)

  • Four colors: Sapphire blue, Seashell white, Golden brown and Coral pink

  • 248 x 170 x 29mm

  • 3-hour (three-cell) and 6-hour (six-cell) battery options

  • Options: 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, Windows XP

Other specifications vary depending on the operating system: Linux models have an 8GB SSD and 512MB RAM; Windows XP models have an 80GB harddisk and 1GB RAM (though harddisks will be optional across the range). One of the two SD card slots can also be used to expand onboard storage.

The desktop is split into four groups for Connect, Work, Fun and Files. It includes the one Mail email application that supports up to six mailboxes and will work with Outlook, Lotus Notes, AOL and Gmail accounts. The application also incorporates a cross-platform IM client that supports MSN/Live Messenger, Yahoo!, Google Chat and AIM.

Graphics are provided by a Mobile Intel 945GSE Express chipset. It also has three USB ports, an Ethernet port, and an external monitor port, and one nice extra feature is the 5-in-1 card reader.

The Aspire One features a 95 percent full-sized keyboard for natural, easy typing just like you're used to.

The glossy finish of the Aspire One is something that really caught my attention. It made it so classy and stylish. If you're the type of user who wants to show off your gadgets, the Aspire One will not put you to shame.

But I guess the biggest news I have about the Acer Aspire One is the price. I heard it's going to be the most affordable subnotebook in the market considering it's the first Intel Atom-based Netbook ever to hit the market.

How much? I will keep you in suspense and let Acer Philippines announce this at its offical launch. For now, let me enjoy the Acer Aspire One somemore.
