Hiding your iPhone pics
Sep 22, 2009 10:12I lock my iPhone, I set a password for it. Call me paranoid, but I, for one, take privacy very seriously, especially when it comes to the snaps I take or videos I shoot on my iPhone.
Decades ago, males lived with their pride in their little Black Book, the one which stores the information of all their conquests, new contacts and prospects. Nowadays, all these private data, pictures, videos and even SMS chat history are stored all on the iPhone (or other modes which we are not covering here).
Ever since the first-generation iPhone was launched, I've been looking for whatever applications that can keep my data private, especially my pictures. For years, I have tried out numerous applications such as Roll Swap, Picture Vault, etc. They all have some nice features to offer but not a complete standalone app which can do it all. It was not until last week when I read the review on Private Pics for iPhone over at Macworld that I finally give this app a try, and hmm... think I found the right one.
I downloaded Private Pics (the free version, of course, which sets you up for one folder which can hold up to 10 pictures (the full version costs US$1.99) and gave it a try. First up, the interface was clean and easy to use. One can import the pictures on one's camera roll or simply take a picture from the camera within the Private Pics application. All pics are stored in the Private Pics application itself. Even when you have plugged in the iPhone to your PC or Mac, all pics stored or taken with Private Pics will not show up on the DCIM folder under your iPhone explorer page, a major plus here.
To view the pics under Private Pics, you get the normal portrait or landscape view together with a slideshow function.

This application also comes with a decoy password setting so you can actually set a decoy password. When it is open, the album is empty and no pictures will be shown.
