Falling in love all again with Pocket Informant for iPhone
Aug 7, 2009 16:36Pocket Informant by WebIS has always been my go-to PIM application back in the Pocket PC era, and after test-driving it for two weeks on the iPhone 3GS, I can say that WebIS has got it covered with the Pocket Informant for iPhone.
Despite Apple's restrictions to syncing with the iPhone calendar, Pocket Informant for iPhone syncs flawlessly over the air with Google Calendar or Outlook via Google Calendar (as a workaround with Google sync) for the calendar functions and Toodledo for the task functions.
WebIS is currently offering a lite version (for free), which let users test out the application (calendar can sync only one week forward and backward) and a full version for US$12.99. WebIS also announced that direct sync with Outlook/iCal/Things would come later this year.
Highlights of the calendar function:
- Today View to show your current appointments, to-dos and meeting attendees
- Timebars to show your free/busy time at a glance
- Swipe between Months, Days, and Weeks
- Support for seven-day split (traditional) and seven-day PI Week View Styles
- Easily jump to any date in Day and Month views
- Expanded detail view to see events and to-dos on any day
- To-dos integrated in the Calendar Views
- Create and edit recurring appointments
- Support for all recurring types including "First-Last Weekday/end/day"
- Set your first day of week and work hours
- Set a default alarm
- Show up to three lines of text per row
- Send Meeting Requests
- ISO Week Number support
As for the task (to-do) function, the Pocket Informant features the Franklin Covey (Franklin Covey Priorities A-Z and 1-99) and Getting Things Done (GTD)(support for Projects, Context, Next Action, Flagged, Inbox) based to-do via Toodledo.
Highlights of task function:
- Quick add of Tasks
- Plain, Dates, Progress, Action, Priority Groupings
- Filters to quickly find active, due, overdue, and completed to-dos
- Filters to quickly find active, due, overdue, and completed to-dos
- Show up to three lines of text per row
- Order to-dos in Projects
- Star Favorite to-dos
- Starring/Flagging to-dos
- Setup status of Next Action through Planning and more on each to-do
- Multiple Complete with innovative multi-select user interface
Other notable features:
- User-customizable font size and colors

Pocket Informant for iPhone is definitely the PIM application that iPhone is missing and I guarantee you will be thrilled once you test-drive it.
