Global Blogger Survey Results--Text100

Last week, I was invited to participate as a panel member at the Global Blogger Survey Results launch by Text100 here in Hong Kong. Text100, a reputable global public relations firm, surveyed 449 bloggers from 21 countries between April 6 and May 18, 2009. The Web survey, being first of its kind, was designed to clarify bloggers' relationships with PR people and corporations and also to explore the characteristics of bloggers from the US, Europe and APAC.

Some of the interesting findings from this survey included:

  • Slightly more than a third (36 percent) of bloggers surveyed spend more than 9 hours per week blogging. 18 percent spend more than 16 hours blogging per week. The amount of blogging time is highest in Australia, Taiwan and Korea, with the lowest in Singapore and New Zealand.

  • Bloggers in the US, on average, spend more time blogging, with 63 percent spending 9 or more hours a week in the US, while only 36 percent and 44 percent of their counterparts in APAC and Europe, respectively, spending the same amount of time.

  • 76 percent use a microblogging site (such as Twitter) and opinions on its effect on their normal blogging vary. About a third (30 percent) said their blogging increased due to microblogging (especially in Taiwan). A third (31 percent) said it decreased (especially in Hong Kong), while 39 percent said it had no effect on their blogging. Microblogging was least used by bloggers in China and Korea.

  • 75 percent agreed that bloggers should always clearly state their employer or association if blogging on issues or topics that relate to their businesses. 100 percent of New Zealand bloggers supported this philosophy, while less than half (46 percent) of surveyed Chinese bloggers felt compelled to do so.

Hmm... some pretty interesting findings... What are your thoughts?
