CNN launches new mobile site across Asia Pacific

CNN launched CNNMobile.com earlier this week. It's most comprehensive mobile news site to date across 49 countries and territories in Asia Pacific. It rounds out CNN's 360-degree mobile solutions offering, integrating live streaming mobile TV, video-on-demand content, and SMS-breaking news alert services. Available directly to consumers free of charge, it is custom-designed to guarantee user-friendly navigation and interaction, ensuring that the network's award-winning content can be assessed in a matter of seconds.

Ringo Chan, vice president of Wireless, Interactive Content, Development and Distribution, Turner International Asia Pacific, said: "The launch of CNN's new mobile news service across Asia Pacific underlines our commitment to delivering news to the fingertips of global users across multiple platforms. We now have a full portfolio of mobile solutions for users across the region to experience a seamless connecting experience. Our aim is to make it easy for users to access content anytime and anywhere."

Key elements of the new CNN mobile Internet service include a searchable 14-day news archive with over 2,000 stories, allowing users to look in-depth at the issues, people and events shaping the global news agenda. In addition, the platform also automatically detects the weather in whatever country the user is registered in, personalizing the delivery of five-day forecasts, details on air travel delays, ski reports, and much more.

The enhanced functionality of the site allows users to stay informed of breaking news stories as and when they happen. Users can now easily roll and click through the top headlines across category-based news sections, including business, sport, entertainment and more. They can also access CNN's "In the Field" blogs by the network's award-winning international correspondents across the globe.

This unique blog allows users to share thoughts and observations of CNN's journalists on assignment, whether it's from conflict zone, a summit gathering or off the beaten track.

The new mobile service is easily accessed by typing the CNNMobile.com address into the phone browser. Alternatively, users can also get the link sent straight to their phone via the CNN Mobile website at cnnmobile.com/services. The site operates on all GPRS and 3G WAP-enabled mobile and handheld devices in all mobile browsers in addition to operator portals where deals are in place.

The launch of the new CNN Mobile news service will be supported by an extensive ongoing marketing campaign, encompassing on-air, print, online and in-flight advertising. This includes demonstrations and innovative opportunities by bluecasting the product thereby encouraging trials in selective countries around the Asia Pacific region.
