Saving the last rainforests
Oct 5, 2009 15:14Even for the average Malaysian from East Malaysia, the rainforests of West Malaysia are considered exotic locations, places that many would never think of visiting or exploring on their own. The forests are so wild and untamed that they are teeming with extraordinary life. More than 360 new species have been discovered in the past 10 years, to the amazement of scientists and researchers. And more species are still being discovered.
These untouched forests also provide livelihood to numerous hunter-gatherer indigenous tribes, some of whom are still nomadic and who have not been reached by civilization before. Unfortunately, these tribes and the wild life of Borneo island are quickly losing their cover.

No one cares about owning iPods in here. It is a luxury to have electricity and running water.

But before it is too late...

Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia have signed a pact to protect the last remaining forests of Borneo covering 220,000sq km. As a comparison, the entire island of Singapore is only 693sq km. That's a pretty big mass to defend against illegal loggers and poachers who own guns and bullets, unlike our forest rangers.

We need as much help as possible.

How This Forests Are Destructed As This In 60 Years Only ? Is For Wood Of Forests ? Or For New City Or Road Building ? Is Destruction Stoped Now Or Continue ? Governments Of Brunei Really Do Something To Stop Process Of Destruction & Then Add New Trees To Forests To Live Them Again , As they Were .

Apparently, our increasingly 'paper-less' lifestyle is not helping the trees. Clearly we all need to push governments to make the logging industry more sustainable, and buy furniture and stuff more carefully...
