Samsung Reclaim green mobile phone that's literally green

Here's another green mobile phone we can admire from afar--the new Samsung Reclaim.

I'm fascinated by Samsung's ongoing launches of inventive green mobile phones. Last year, we saw the Samsung Blue Earth which has a solar panel on its back and green apps Eco-mode, Eco-calendar and Eco-walk. However, it's been "upcoming" for such a long time that by now, we can say with a certain confidence that it will probably never reach our shores. Awww...

Next up is this brand new Samsung Reclaim.

What's so green about it? Here're the specs:
  • The plastic: 40 percent of the outer casing is made of bio-plastic comprising corn. The entire phone is free of PVC, phthalates, and nearly completely free of brominated flame retardants (BFR).

  • The packaging: The outer packaging and the phone tray inside the box are made from 70 percent recycled material. The images and text on the box as well as the phone warranty information are printed with soy-based ink. The typical thick paper-based user manual has been replaced with a virtual manual that users can access at www.sprint.com/reclaimsupport.

  • The charger: The charger consumes 12 times less power than the Energy Star standard for standby power consumption.

  • The apps: One Click is a customizable user interface with quick access to social networks, and on the Samsung Reclaim, a new green One Click tile provides quick access to several green apps:

    • Five Simple Steps from Discovery Channel provides five changes you can make to be more eco-friendly, from how you commute to what you eat for dinner.

    • Green Guides from Discovery Channel which offer guides to greening your lives and understanding why.

    • Green Glossary from Discovery Channel which provides words and explanations about the Earth and climate change.

    • All Things Green, a Sprint Web category that contains dynamic green headlines and links to downloadable content.
