It's gaming weekend here in Singapore!
Oct 23, 2009 11:18So, think you are going to spend the whole of this weekend in an armchair geeking out on your video game again? Think again! Chances are, if you are a gamer, you are in a big dilemma, just like this geek who's deciding which gaming event to attend! There are three major gaming events back-to-back this weekend. Here's the exciting lowdown:
1. Dreamhack South East Asia Qualifiers.
The world's largest digital festival from Sweden is holding a round of qualifiers here in Singapore at the Colosseum, Illuma. Six champions of CounterStrike 1.6 and Street Fighter IV will get to fly to Sweden to represent Southeast Asia! More on the event here.
2. Xbox 360 Gaming Showdown 2009.
It's shaping up to be another blockbuster holiday season for gamers, with the hottest games being launched on the Xbox 360 platform as Microsoft brings to gaming fans the Xbox 360 Gaming Showdown 2009 (XGS 2009).
To be held at VivoCity from October 23 to 25, XGS 2009 brings together a slew of top games that will be released this holiday season in one venue, with several titles being showcased to the public for the very first time. The XGS stage will also be a non-stop venue of gaming challenges for gamers, with up to S$20,000 worth of prizes to be won over the weekend on games such as Forza Motorsport 3, The Beatles: Rock Band, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, NBA 2K10 and Tekken 6. Registration will be onsite on a first-come, first-serve basis. Find the latest updates and XGS 2009 event schedule here.
3. Family Fun with Nintendo's Wii Sports Resort
Wii has set up a family event this weekend to try out 12 new resort-style sports games from Wii Sports Resort. Featuring the next chapter in the Wii Sports phenomenon, you can try your hand on the latest Wii MotionPlus accessory which makes gameplay more real.
Joining in the fun will be national bowlers Remy Ong, Singapore Sportswoman of the Year 2009 Jasmine Yeong-Nathan and her brother Jason Yeong-Nathan. Aide Iskander, the former national captain for Singapore Lions, will also try out the different sports games with his family members.
As there doesn't seem to be a Web site for this, details of the event are as follows:
Date/Time:
Saturday, October 24, 2009, 11am-9pm
Sunday, October 25, 2009, 11am-7pm
Venue:
Ngee Ann City, Civic Plaza, 391 Orchard Road, Singapore 238873
Sports personalities special appearances:
Saturday: Aide Iskander (1pm to 3pm); Remy Ong (3pm to 5pm)
Sunday: Jasmine and Jason Yeong-Nathan (1pm to 4pm)
So, from the PC to the Xbox and Wii, there's gaming action for everyone this weekend. As usual, this geek will be hopping from one party to another. Be there or be square!
