How Nokia N97 Mini can make geeks more fashionable
Sep 18, 2009 12:30In the recent Nokia One Connected World event in Kuala Lumpur (#nokiaocw on Twitter), Nokia showcased its growing world of social apps on Ovi.
The N97 mini was also introduced and what caught this geek's attention was the Raoul Limited Edition of the N97 Mini.

There will be only 1,000 sets available in Singapore and another 1,000 in Malaysia. How you can purchase one will be announced at a later date. The expected retail price should not cross the S$1,500 mark.

Raoul has designed all the accessories for this limited-edition piece, especially the back and leather casing.

Nokia has also teamed up with FJ Benjamin (the company which brought Raoul to this part of the world) to launch the Fashion Asia Widget. Good news is this widget will be available on the Ovi Store and not just for the limited-edition customers. So fret not, N97 customers!

Besides a GPS-based store locator to tell you where the nearest Raoul or Gap store is, Fashion Asia also features daily fashion tips from Cleo and Harper's Bazaar. Looks like geeks such as myself can use this technology to become, ahem, more fashionable.

Other features in this widget include taking fashionable photos of yourself and sharing them, hot fashion picks, and direct buying from the online store.

This geek managed to catch a picture together with Axel Meyer, the head of design for the NSeries.
Besides checking out what transpired through the tweets, you can also get updated on the three Singapore developers featured on SGEntrepreneurs. This geek was also really impressed by some of the Ovi Store apps showcased, such as Shazam to find your favorite music, Speereo Voice Translator to help you navigate cities in a foreign language (like Tokyo), and of course, Fashion Asia.

The Nokia N97 Mini is arguably Nokia's most powerful handset to date, and it combines a large touch-sensitive display with a QWERTY keyboard, 3.5G high-speed data, a 5 megapixel camera plus GPS and mapping support, but will this be enough to catch up and beat the dominance of the iPhone. Well I been seeing a lot of iPhone killer also known as (MID) Mobile Internet Devices lately, but none has really lived up to it expectations.

Given the QWERTY design, I'm not sure Nokia wanted this to be the device that'll beat the iPhone. But yeah, it sure is a nice phone :p
