What happens to Geeks who can't do marathons?

Geeks who can't do marathons, end up doing blogathons. At least, in the case of this geek who broke his left knee years back and had to give up his dreams of being the next Yao Ming.

As a geek and blogger, I thought a blogathon was what I should be doing to help me lose some of that excess baggage, at least that's what I thought when I signed up for it. I mean, forcing myself to stay awake for 24 hours is a good way to catch up on all the blog posts I've been behind on over the past two months, right? And what a good way to finally be in town for 24 whole hours!

I mean, all my friends and acquaintances can come and catch up with me by gawking at me through the window display! What a productive way to use this geek's time! Oh, I guess I didn't tell you that this blogathon is all about going for 24 hours without sleep as a window display at Tangs right in the middle of Orchard Road?

Actually, I didn't find out what this whole blogathon was all about when I signed up for it. I didn't have to: Being able to blog 24 hours non-stop on the latest Intel-powered Lenovo U350 was enough for me to enter into almost any agreement blindly.

The uber-sleek Lenovo IdeaPad U350

Of course, being a window display for 24 hours with nine other fun and cool bloggers (who, unlike this geek, actually look good being window displays), getting all suited up by Tangs for free, S$200 worth of free Kiehl's products, made the deal that much sweeter.

I love to do the crazy and try the impossible since we only live once. Heck, I'm even sharing a display window together with Hillary for 24 hours straight! Talk about being crazy.

So, here's what you can do to get involved in this historic event (and provide some much-needed encouragement to this geek):

1. From Friday 6pm to Saturday 6pm (Singapore time), visit the Blogathon site and comment on Nicholas Aaron Khoo's blog posts. Leave as many comments as possible, but each comment must be longer than 140 characters. That means short comments like "good post" (only nine characters) are not counted.

2. Come down to Tangs Orchard (if you are in Singapore) and vote for Nicholas Aaron Khoo.

3. Sign up for a free Twitter account and retweet my Twitter message about the event on Saturday, 10:15am to 10:30am.

Hey, the first 20 people who register for Twitter onsite will win a S$50 Tangs voucher each!

You can be updated about what's going on by either following my twitter or searching for the hashtag #bthon on Twitter.

See you over the next 24 hours, either in person at Tangs or online!

@Geek: We'll gladly vote for you, but first you must buy us the ticket to Singapore ;-)

The trick to winning is lots of coffee and no money business before the competition.

Good luck! Don't let us geeks down!

I meant to say "no MONKEY business before the competition" ;-)

@Geek: Congrats on the Blogathon! What do you think of the Lenovo U350? Looks pretty cool.

Thanks scoobydoo, for dropping by with your comments on the blogathon site too! I think the Lenovo U350 is great, but there's some small issues with the Vista implementation, good thing they have the upgrade option for Windows 7.
