Star Wars buffs beware! You'll need an Xbox 360 soon!
Apr 6, 2008 11:07Last Thursday, this geek braved the treacherous weather and rushed back to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur in an excruciating drive that took almost 6 hours because of the terrible weather, accidents, and traffic jams!
All this just to attend Microsoft Xbox 360's 2nd birthday private party for bloggers! And though I did not walk home with an Xbox 360 (if only), boy, was I glad I made it!
The bloggers were treated to sneak previews of upcoming titles, a number of which were introduced by the studios themselves like LucasArts, Atari, and EA. And Microsoft will make sure we'd never be able to play another Xbox 360 game ever again if we even breathed a word about some of the insane stuff we saw or heard that night.
Now, how do you get bloggers to keep a secret? By immersing them with Xbox 360 gaming action, of course. Lots and lots of it!
The bloggers competed in bomberman, Guitar Hero 3, and Project Gotham Racing! And tried their hands on games like Rockband, too!
Yours truly couldn't play GH3 for nuts, but do you think I looked the part?

Jamming with my team-mate Eunice on GH3 (party host Oli Pettigrew behind us).

And if I couldn't play GH3, I think I was even worse on PGR :p
Suddenly, for once, I felt an urge to get an Xbox 360! Microsoft is evil :p
My team-mate for the night, Lester (sitting next to me in the PGR pic), put up a great list of the games previewed to us, so I shall post it here:
- Ninja Gaiden II by Team Ninja (Official)(Gamespot)
- Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit by Namco Bandai (Official) (Gamespot)
- Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon by THQ (Official)(Gamespot)
- Alone In The Dark by Atari (Official) (Gamespot)
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed by LucasArts (Official) (Gamespot)
- Facebreaker by EA (Official) (Gamespot)
- UEFA Euro 2008 by EA (Official) (Gamespot)
- Dead Space by EA (Official) (Gamespot)
- Mirrors Edge by EA (Official)(Gamespot)
- Grand Theft Auto IV by Rockstar (Official)(Gamespot)
- Most of the games mentioned above are going to be released between late May 2008 and June 2008.
- According to the LucasArts spokesperson, he said this is the first time it has announced the released date of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and here they are:
- September 16, 2008, in the US.
- September 17, 2008, in Asia Pacific
- September 19, 2008, in Europe
- GTA IV will be released on April 29, 2008, and it will come to Singapore this time as MDA has a new rating system for games soon.
Sheylara's got some good reviews of some of the titles, too!
So instead of going through all the titles here with you, let me just talk about the one title that would make me go out there and grab the Xbox 360--LucasArts' Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
The bloggers were literally blown away by the real-time demo of this killer game which showcased uber-cool Force powers and Digital Molecular Matter physics technology--whatever that means. The graphics are just in a league of their own! After this demo, everything else was just, well, everything else.
From Sheylara's post:
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
This game is really, really cool. If you're a Star Wars fan. Maybe even if you're not. But who isn't a Star Wars fan?
You're Darth Vadar's secret apprentice between the time periods of Star Wars Episodes 3 and 4, sent to destory all remaining Jedis. You get to wield your very own lightsaber as well as use the Force to do a variety of things including kill, maim and destroy living and non-living things. You can even take down TIE fighters using the Force alone. Who knows, you might even want to turn against foster daddy Darth Vadar and be a good guy. But I know all you hardcore gamers are too lean and mean to be good. The game boasts really brilliant graphics that show you real-time damage as you go about destroying everything around you. We were treated to a demonstration of the gameplay which, unfortunately, cannot be released yet. But it looked really good. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed releases on September 16 (US), September 17 (Asia), and September 19 (Europe), 2008. Pre-order is available here.Official site on LucasArts.com.
Yeah, it was fantastic seeing the real gameplay as Darth Vader's secret apprentice takes out TIE fighters with only the Force. Hmm, are you sure he's the apprentice and not the other way around?
Anyway, the bloggers got to walk away with some nice goodies, too:

Oh my gosh! They gave me a controller when I don't have an Xbox 360. The obsessive compulsive side of me now needs to go out and get an Xbox 360 just to feel balanced!!
Microsoft is evil :(
P.S. If I do get one, will Bill Gates sign on my Xbox, too?

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is not only on the XBOX360, it's also on PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP and DS. The title doesn't exactly make sense.

I agree with espoac, you're pretty stupid to assume that just because you went to a microsoft event and they showcased certain games there doesn't mean that they are exclusives to xbox360...you should really change the title before people get the wrong idea by reading your ill-informed post
Apr 07, 2008 08:44
Hey guys, thanks for setting the records straight with your comments :) As you can see, I'm not a console gamer myself. But from what I understand, XBOX 360 beat the crap outta PS3 with their exclusive title launches just like PS2 did against XBOX, so you can't blame me for assuming that its the same again this time :p
Anyways, the representative from LucasArts came and showcased the live in-game graphics on XBOX 360 - seriously I can't help assuming that only XBOX 360 can produce this kinda graphics.
In any case, if you don't have any of the consoles, you still can't play this game so the title isn't entirely wrong and stays :p

Get off the internet Geekonomics!! This blog isn't even misleading, it's just wrong. Geekonomics is not a blogger that can be trusted. He admits he is wrong and decides to still give the wrong information...did MS pay you off or something? Any normal blogger would correct mistakes, but you comment saying
"In any case, if you don't have any of the consoles, you still can't play this game so the title isn't entirely wrong ans stays :p,"
like that fixes things. You're logic in that statement doesn't even make any sense. Star Wars buffs don't NEED a 360. In fact, Star Wars buffs just NEED a gaming console or handheld, period. Please, just replace the title with, "I AM A FRAUD, AND SHOULD NEVER BE ON THE INTERNET."
Apr 07, 2008 12:42
@sretlaw - so maybe I should change the title to "Star Wars Buffs beware! You'll need an Xbox 360 + PS3 + Wii + PSP soon!"? LOL!
And nopez, if only MS paid me. But they're evil remember? :p
Apr 07, 2008 13:00
No, you should completely change the title to something along the lines of, "I've Been Bribed By Microsoft." I could really care less what you change it to, just as long as it's truthful. Change it to something about your experience at this 360 party or about how bomb Unleashed is going to be. But don't come out saying that Microsoft is evil over and over, and then give off false information that can lead a non-geek into believing that Microsoft will be the only company that offers a gaming console that will have Unleashed. Stop commenting like this is some myspace bullshit. Microsoft probably is evil, but because you knowingly give false information, you are evil. :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p...you should just :X

Haha, this is just like the flack I got from the Hangzhou Expat Forum www.hangzhouexpat.com... for blogging that the public transport in HZ is fantastic!
The truth is, we do not research every angle of the story before writing in our online diaries because we are bloggers, not journalists.
Apr 07, 2008 13:03
@Hillary - as usual, I just talked about my experience at the party and what I seen or heard as is. Never claimed more. But guessed I stepped on the toes of some PS3 and Wii diehards here :p
I have no problems with PS3 and Wii :) But I did wonder why the "The Father of the PlayStation" Ken Kutaragi had to quit after PS3 came out.
Too bad Nintendo and Sony doesn't throw anniversary parties for bloggers here :)
Apr 07, 2008 13:18
@sretlaw - nopez, I can't write about 'bomb unleashed' coz they never showed me such a game at the party.
LucasArts came by (they have a big setup here in SG btw) and showed us stuff which we can't talk about :p and no, Microsoft didn't pay me though I wished they did and then I can put your "I've Been Bribed By Microsoft." as a true title.
Chill dude, is Sony or Nintendo paying you? Maybe you can introduce me to them instead.
And no, the title is not misleading coz you do need a console to play "the force unleashed"! And XBOX 360 is one of the consoles available! duh..

Don't make comments trying to poke at what I consider shorthand typing. It might be shorthand but the meaning stays the same.
If we make a Venn diagram, all 360's are consoles, but not all consoles are a 360, period. Unleashed (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed if you couldn't figure this out by now) is coming out for almost EVERY current console, yet you still stand by your comment that Star Wars buffs NEED a 360.
If you don't have a 360, tell me what console(s) you do have, because this game will most likely come out for it...yet by your blog title, "You'll need an Xbox 360 soon!" OMG Geekonomics, you're going to have to buy a Xbox 360 soon from the "evil" Microsoft company, who you hate soooo much to where you have to state they are evil multiple times.
BTW, I don't really assume you are payed off by Microsoft (It's sarcasm...and I don't think you deserve that much), but you speak as if you are. And I don't think you should put "I've Been Bribed by Microsoft" for your title (Sarcasm again).
Apr 07, 2008 14:06
I like the 'Don't make comments trying to poke at what I consider shorthand typing. It might be shorthand but the meaning stays the same.' to completely change the name of a game and yet justify and stick by it :p
I only saw the live game graphics demo on a XBOX 360 event but I did not see it on a Wii or PS3 how would I know the performance? So I stick by my recommending the XBOX 360 to play the game, I don't think that's too much or warrants a change in post title since readers can read the whole post and all the comments here for themselves.
BTW enough of the 'evil' jokes/issue, the reason why I stated 'Microsoft is evil' is explained in the last 5 lines of the post.

"I like the 'Don't make comments trying to poke at what I consider shorthand typing. It might be shorthand but the meaning stays the same.' to completely change the name of a game and yet justify and stick by it :p? (???) Did I argue you into stupidity? WTF are you trying to say here?
"I only saw the live game graphics demo on a XBOX 360 event but I did not see it on a Wii or PS3 how would I know the performance?" Do you always never do research? I mean you went out of your way to write in your self assured little blog about this game where "the graphics are just in a league of their own!" YET you don't know anything more then what you were blindly told at this...gathering...AND you didn't even look through the amazing website (that YOU linked) that Lucasarts took so much time to create where they emphasize that each platform the game is released on will have something special, including the DS and the PS2.
BTW ... so you don't think Microsoft is evil? Hard to tell when in the last 5 lines it isn't explained but implied. What I seem to get the sense of is that you probably said "The obsessive compulsive side of me now needs to go out and get an Xbox 360 just to feel balanced!" so that if any of your friends see you buying a 360 soon...it's because of this controller you got from Microsoft. Just go buy one if you want one, you don't have to create this entire blog post to try and cover the fact that you really want an Xbox 360.
"Readers can read the whole post and all the comments here for themselves." I really hope readers do read the comments, so they don't get confused by your blog post. Plus there's much more that can be known about your personality in the comments then there are in this blog.
I'll leave your little corner of the internet alone for now, since it's time for bed, and you could reply all day since it's what...2PM there?...
