Ping.Sg business gathering and a very eventful week

It's been a really eventful past week for me. After hosting some guests from the Asean summit the week before, I was kind of thrown into a series of events most of which I had to anchor or take on some key role. I'm not the typical geek who takes a lot of photos or blogs about my day-to-day happenings, but I found I had my camera handy most of this week. So why not let me take you through a week of my life with some photos of the highlights? Here they are:

Monday, November 26
Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Central Singapore Community Development Council and Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council. I was there to witness the signing and talked to the Central Singapore CDC Mayor Zainudin Nordin (left-most) about technologies that can aid public service, especially the aged:

Tuesday, November 27
I spent many hours and months with an NGO mainly on fund-raising strategies which led to a dinner event this night to launch its new vision as well as for fund-raising. We put up some items and I played the keyboards in a getai Chinese band as well as shared about my own personal experiences:

That's me on the keyboards.

Friday, November 30
Alpsoft held our 5th-year anniversary in my soon-to-be launched 3rd cybercafe outlet at HomeTeam NS JOM club, Ah Hood Road. Our long-time customer and partner Hewlett Packard was there to support our anniversary as well.

BTW, this 3rd Gaming Giants outlet will be quite interesting featuring:

  • A place for laptop users to work in a casual setting (power provided)

  • Brand new computers with 19-inch LCD widescreen monitors for Internet surfing and gaming

  • For events and functions--coupled with halal restaurant, pub, swimming pool, bowling alley, mahjong rooms, pool, and function rooms.

  • Though it's not planned to be anything like the previous concept which I designed for Geek Terminal, it does look like we can hold very interesting corporate events, product launches, for larger crowds and cybercafe terminals to boot. I'll take it slow for now as the main focus for this cybercafe is to manage the concept of CyberSports for HomeTeam NS which includes the Singapore Police and Civil Defence.

Speaking of CyberSports, team Singapore Sword almost faced a disqualification in the CGS when team captain Prasad could not leave due to National Service obligations. Singapore CyberSports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) did all it could to prevent this. But we could do only so much when CyberSports is not recognized as an official sports in Singapore yet. I spent countless hours this week talking to both ground and senior folks at MINDEF, MCYS, SSC and even MDA about this issue. Looks like CGS officials may relent and not disqualify team Singapore Sword since Prasad had signed an undertaking after WCG Seattle that it is going to be his last overseas Cybersports stint.

Sunday, December 2, 12pm
Ping.Sg Business meetup
Although this event was not organized by me, I helped to host the venue by securing the NLB Pod for the guys, thanks to Johnson of EBIS, and felt really, really bad that I had flight woes and had to leave less than 1.5 hours into the event.

EBIS is a really amazing public service offering business research to businesses. All startups and SMEs should sign up for it!

Check out the backdrop to our meeting!

Since I left halfway, maybe you can check out blogs of "Pingsters" like DK, Claudia, Endoh, Precious, etc., who will be able to tell you much more about the event.

Sunday, December 2, 5pm
Singapore Slingers home match against Brisbane Bullets
Oh man! I really, really missed this! There are only two home games this month. To think I will have to miss it! I had to book two corporate VIP boxes to house all of the 17 bloggers and partners who were coming. I felt bad to be a "missing host", but thank god there's Precious and Andy to help me make sure my guests are taken care of.

Too bad I have no updates for you on this one except that WE WON THE DEFENDING CHAMPIONS! What a euphoria that must be live at the stadium!

And I missed all of it! :(

Anyway, you can check out the match report, Jason, Sheylara, Andy, Precious, SimplyJean, Claudia, Andrew Peters, Sabrina, MissCel for updates soon.

For me, this blogpost was written with this view at my window:

And then in the transit lounge at Ho Chi Minh Airport.

And then finally concussed on my hotel bed in Taipei.

Although this eventful past week was not so typical, my life pretty much moves around this speed most of the time. Have been contemplating getting a personal assistant to help with some of my work as I foresee things will only step up next year. As it is, my schedule is already filled up for the next three months. Any applicants for personal assistants? Maybe I can blog for you in return for compensation?

Anyway, that's the end of my long post on my past week. Will be spending the next 10 days here in Taipei and Ho Chi Minh.

Have a great week ahead :)

BTW, here're some pics of a really nice place my customer put me up at here in Taipei.

In case your eyes play tricks on you, these candles are really just toiletries.
