Developing your COMEX strategy

You may have developed various strategies, from business strategies to strategies in managing your kids. But have you developed one of the most important strategies in your geek life?

It's COMEX week in tech-show Singapore where geeks and friends (housewives, parents, kids, etc. of geeks) get treated to a wide array of gears and gadets once again.

While I can't visit the show yet, I'm already formulating my show visit strategy, as with every other major tech show here which happens every two to three months.

Some people go to COMEX just because it's a tech show and wander mindlessly for hours squeezing among the mad crowd. Some people go in looking for a specific gear or gadget like a PDA and scour the whole show just for the best deals. Some people chance upon some great promotion in the daily papers like a free laptop with a new broadband plan and go to join the queue that can extend as long as 2-3 hours or more. Some read carefully all the reviews and publications out there on the show and go in for the kill--right on target.

You can read CNET's writeups here.

Others go on the very last day at the last minute to bottom-fish for last-minute stock clearance deals (which happens to be quite effective).

Of course, you can be a trade visitor with a very specific purpose. But whether you are a consumer, a trade visitor or even an exhibitor, you need a strategy to maximize your leverage and opportunities from this show. For me, one of the fun things is to watch all the Singapore geeks, closet geeks and geek wannabes in one place. I call this "geek watch".

So, do you now have a better idea of your COMEX strategy?
