Samsung falling in love with AMOLED

Samsung's latest gadget or product seems to take AMOLED as its display. AMOLED is a great display technology, but its cost and size aren't ready for mainstream usage in all the product categories. However, Samsung seems confident that those problems can be resolved by 2010.

Samsung's latest MP3 players all use AMOLED for great movie playback and photo images on its small-sized LCD. Of course, the company's mobile phones have also used AMOLED screens. However, all the gadgets using AMOLED have screen sizes smaller than 4 inches.

Now, Samsung has introduced an AMOLED-embedded Netbook from the FPD International 2009 exhibition. This is a prototype model showcased by the Samsung Mobile Display (SMD). This division is only a year-old in the Samsung group, but has had a successful year with the AMOLED display. Its prototype Netbook has a 7-inch AMOLED screen which is incredible compared with existing notebook or Netbook products. However, its high-spec'd LCD will just push the price high enough to put off customers. Just like the Sony X-series notebook, the Samsung portable is ultraslim and stylish, but its CPU uses an Intel Atom whose performance isn't good enough for the price.

SMD is planning to release various sizes of AMOLEDs for its mobile phones, Netbooks, navigation devices and TVs. It has already introduced a 14.1-inch WXGA notebook PC panel, a 5-10-inch MID screen, and a WVGA high-resolution display. SMD currently has 97 percent of market share in the AMOLED market.

It will be great to wait and see someday when you will have all your displays in AMOLED, which will give you a clear, glare-free, wide viewing angle.

His taste for international work, however, arose from a nine-year stay in New Zealand where he fortunately made more friends than there are sheep.
