Microsoft Windows 7 launched in Korea with 777 power bloggers

Microsoft Korea prepared its Windows 7 rollout event with the usual media and bloggers at October 22 in Korea. This may have been a global event, but Korea was the only market to invite power bloggers in a separate show to promote their latest operating system.

777 Korean power bloggers were invited by Microsoft Korea, with 777 being a number chosen to tie in with the Windows 7 launch. I've been to many blogger events held in Korea, but this had to be the biggest blogger event ever seen. MS prepared a light dinner meal and gave away its Windows 7 Ultimate (Eng Ver.) to all attendees

Korea is a very special market for Microsoft because, and I dare say, 90 percent or more of PC users are actually on Windows XP or Vista. Without Windows OS, users here are unable to surf the Internet smoothly. That's because they will face trouble logging into or accessing ActiveX which operates only under Windows OS.

Also, the market is really driven by power bloggers who are known as opinion leaders in the Internet space, especially IT-related bloggers whose influence is huge. Most IT-related companies often invite these power bloggers to promote their new products and to ask them to review the devices to appeal to target users.

Microsoft Korea prepared this launch event with selected bloggers and employees to demonstrate each feature during the session to show that it's an OS developed with PC users in mind. MS said Windows 7 underwent 8 million beta testers, 16,000 online interviews and 40,000 hours of case study. What the US company wants to say is that Windows 7 was developed and created by user feedback and ideas.

Some of the features are very creative. In fact, I wasn't aware of them even though I'd been using Windows 7 beta for a few months. LOL.

One of their main focus in launching Windows 7 in Korea was compatibility with many local Internet services such as banking and games. Microsoft announced that Internet banking was fully served on Windows 7 and that 85 percent of games (the Top 100) have been confirmed to work with Windows 7.

The launch event took about 4 hours, which left me very tired at the end of it. However, many of the bloggers stayed right to the end waiting in patience. Why? Because of the free gift of a Windows 7 Ultimate and one of hottest young girl groups F(x) being showcased at the end.

Let's see how Windows 7 will make changes on the PC industry. I am already seeing many promotions by PC makers riding on Windows 7 and many Windows XP users who have been waiting for a good 10 years to upgrade to the new OS. What about Vista? Come on, you know what I mean.

Good Luck, Windows 7, and farewell, XP and unknown Vista. Haha.

Wow, this looks like a great event. What a great idea to launch with 777 power bloggers. Did you guys spend more time getting to know each other than getting to know the Windows 7 OS? :)

Kevin (Kilmo) Kang is a self-professed IT-savvy guy who's been having the time of his life making tech deals with new business partners in the Asia-Pacific areas. Like every Korean, he's gadget-crazy and is glad he lives in a country with one of the fastest-growing tech markets in the world. His taste for international work, however, arose from a nine-year stay in New Zealand where he fortunately made more friends than there are sheep.
