TG Sambo MID Luuon Mobbit price is out!

Break moment from the CES report update! I posted about the Luuon Mobbit MID from TG Sambo way back in early December with an ideal price tag of U$400 (600,000 won). This ideal price was announced by VP of TG Sambo at the product launch, but this price point got messed up when it started to take preorders for the Luuon Mobbit from January 19 here in Korea.

The retail price of the Luuon Mobbit is 799,000 won (approx. U$575) and this just increased more than 30 percent from what we heard a month ago. The exchange rate is still very much similar to last December's, which makes no sense behind the increase in price tag. The Luuon Mobbit has two features which you may not find in typical Netbooks, which is T-DMB (Korean mobileTV) and a touchscreen. But these feature are not enough to add another U$200 to the original price. Well, it's the company's call and it may not want to promote its shiny new MID to the masses. Also, don't forgot about the other competitors who are about to launch their MIDs in a few weeks' time, such as the Viliv S5 and UMID M1 which were spotlighted at CES 2009. Additional information that I can unearth on these Korean MIDs, the Viliv and UMID, is that the companies are also about to launch their S5 and M1 in February here in Korea. It seems the UMID M1 is the only device which has a lot of buzz, including having a spot at CES 2009 where the company had a small booth to showoff and promote their cool device.

UMID's CES booth

I read a news clip that UMID had signed up with a number of overseas distributors for its UMID M1 distribution. Korea and Hong Kong will be the first countries to sell the UMID M1 which I heard from its promoter at the CES Intel booth, possibly some time end February. The following places has been confirmed as well: Germany, France, Swiss and Japan.

My personal favorite, the 'RED M1'.

I haven't been able to find a price for the UMID M1 at CES since that promoter also didn't have any clue on the price tag as well.

*Update: Pre-order quantity is limit on 150 sets only and Luuon Mobbit will be available in 2 models which include WiBro or not. Above price tag goes to basic model and WiBro built-in model will be available as U$ 503 (KRW 699,000) with 18 months of contract.
