TG Sambo releases first Atom-based MID from Korea

Local PC manufacturer TG Sambo has released its first MID based on Intel's Atom "Z520" chipset. This MID's name is LLUON MOBBIT and the first MID to be released in Korea by a local manufacturer. There are a couple of MIDs under development which we've seen at IDF and other exhibitions, such as the Villip, UMDs and others.

Not much information is available yet, but below are details available right now on the LLUON MOBBIT.

-Model name: Luuon Mobbit
-CPU: Intel Atom 1.33GHz (Z520)
-LCD: 4.8-inch WSVAG (1,024 x 6,000), touchscreen
-RAM: DDR2 533MHz 1GB
-HDD: 1.3-inch HDD 30GB (or SSD 16GB)
-Built-in: WiBro, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
-OS: Windows XP Home Edition
-Camera: 2-megapixel
-Supports T-DMB (Mobile TV)
-Size: 166 x 88 x 21mm
-Weight: 375g

Mobbit will be available in January 2009 with a price of around 600,000 won (U$405).

This isn't its first trial because it was developed as a UMPC under the Averatec brand name in the past, but somehow that model was never released.

Let's see if TG Sambo can boost any responses from Korean early adapters with its MID since this is the very first one in the local market from a major PC brand in Korea as people believe in their customer service, too.

The price seems quite close to high-end PMPs, but it's a PC, guys! I just wonder about the actual battery life for this model.

It seems price is real issue here. Please noted that 600,000 won use to be around U$ 600.00 but, right now exchange rate goes crazy between KRW and USD.

Better buy some KRW now to purchase Mobbit later in Jan 2009. hahaha

About Kevin (Kilmo) Kang

Kevin (Kilmo) Kang is a self-professed IT-savvy guy who's been having the time of his life making tech deals with new business partners in the Asia-Pacific areas. Like every Korean, he's gadget-crazy and is glad he lives in a country with one of the fastest-growing tech markets in the world. His taste for international work, however, arose from a nine-year stay in New Zealand where he fortunately made more friends than there are sheep.
