Great conceptual IT gadgets by mintpass!

mintpass is one of the hottest IT companies in Korea lately. Who are they? Actually, they are a consulting company in product development. This company was established about two months ago by Yang, former CEO and founder of Reigncom (iriver's mother company).

He left Reigncom and established mintpass to develop another IT device that can create a new sector in wireless communications.

All the members of this company came from Reigncom and iriver and used to develop the concept of iriver's MP3 players. So we can imagine they can make something very unique or competitive since they have a proven record with iriver products, and that is the reason they left their former company.

They have announced one device that will soon be out, to be called mintpad. Not much detailed information is available, but an "ideal" concept of the device has been posted by a number of bloggers in Korea.

mintpad will have a 3-inch touchscreen to play music, movies, pictures, and have Wi-Fi. You might think, "what's so different from other MP3 and PMP devices? The main concept of this player here is its memo (writing). They want to develop the mintpad as your future diary but input is by writing and not typing. And the Wi-Fi (or WiMAX or HSDPA) feature allows connecting to the Internet to upload data and to surf, too.

I'm still not too sure that this is really a new concept to us, and a writing memo device isn't too good for most of the computer generation like myself. I hate to write or even try to do it on my PC or laptop.

This mintpad will be out in Korea within 3Q. So, let's see how this product really appeals to us.

Some of visitors who were invited to the mintpass opening ceremony told us that the mintpad is a gadget to compete with Apple iPods. Well, we have to see it to agree or disagree.

By the way, I recommend you to visit the Web site which has a whole lot of concept products. I find some of the ideas really great and hope that some company will co-work with mintpass to bring some of these concept products to fruition soon.

English Web site: www.mintpass.com

Korean Web site: www.mintpass.co.kr

Visit both sites, even if it's described in Korean, you can understand what they are trying to say via the images. This is because some of the concepts listed on the Korean site aren't available on the English site yet.

I should really learn 3D max and Photoshop programs to describe my ideas. mintpass has a good designer to showcase its ideas and concepts in a realistic and attractive way to visitors.

About Kevin (Kilmo) Kang

Kevin (Kilmo) Kang is a self-professed IT-savvy guy who's been having the time of his life making tech deals with new business partners in the Asia-Pacific areas. Like every Korean, he's gadget-crazy and is glad he lives in a country with one of the fastest-growing tech markets in the world. His taste for international work, however, arose from a nine-year stay in New Zealand where he fortunately made more friends than there are sheep.
