1st UMPC from PMP manufacturer in Korea

After Raon's Everun received good feedback from the market, other manufacturers have started to join the UMPC market of late, with most of them MP3 and PMP manufacturers. One of Korean companies is called Wibrain, and it is planning to launch its first UMPC soon in Korea. This company has separated from Digital Cube known by the brand name i-Station which is a PMP market leader in my country.

I thought this would be similar to Digital Cube's upcoming UMPC, the G43 at CeBIT 2007.

Since the G43 is still not released in Korea, it looks like those developers are making their own company with a whole new device. The Wibrain's UMPC B1 will be out in Korea by end 2007. Pictures and specs as follows. Still not much information has been leaked from this company, but this device is targeted at the overseas market rather than the domestic market of Korea, according to an interview from Wibrain's CEO.

B1 has all the necessary keys and specs that other 2nd-generation UMPCs may have missed out, but the size and design don't look so great from my view here.

What do you fellows think? Is this device for you and your market?

More details can be found at Wibrain's Web site. More pictures can be found here.

About Kevin (Kilmo) Kang

Kevin (Kilmo) Kang is a self-professed IT-savvy guy who's been having the time of his life making tech deals with new business partners in the Asia-Pacific areas. Like every Korean, he's gadget-crazy and is glad he lives in a country with one of the fastest-growing tech markets in the world. His taste for international work, however, arose from a nine-year stay in New Zealand where he fortunately made more friends than there are sheep.
