iriver G10 is back in field with new company and model name

Today, Posdata announced its new WiMAX mobile player called G100 during the WiMAX World USA 2007. The Posdata is known as a supplier and developer of mobile Internet core systems and WiBro RAS & ACR which are located and based in Korea.

This G100 is mainly targeted to do mobile Internet games with various other features like movies, music, photos, the Internet, etc., through the WiMAX network in the US. It has a 4-inch touchscreen TFT LCD, slide type of gamepad and three key wireless networks like WiBro, WiMAX and Bluetooth.

It seems this device is just one step ahead of the iPod touch and Cowon Q5 which is known for its Wi-Fi devices for PMP and advanced MP3 players. However, the WiBro and WiMAX markets are still very limited in most of countries and not available as well. So this device is only for the US domestic market and customers to enjoy. Sad.

Now, some of you may remember the iriver G10. It was the original WiBro gaming mobile device and was planned for release at end of 2006. This G100 is just a clone of the G10.

iriver was co-developed with Posdata for the WiBro market in Korea since Posdata has the network technology and iRiver has the device technology. WiBro is a new network service serviced by Korea Telecom since early 2007. However, this service has been delayed and spots and coverage areas are very limited even to today. Due to this, iriver dropped the G10 project and it seems Posdata has taken over this project and revised it to release in the USA market via the WiMAX network.

I found only two things different in the G100 from the G10. One, a 4-inch TFT LCD has been integrated to be a touchscreen TFT LCD, and two, the gamepad has been redesigned.

Personally, the G10's gamepad design is better than the G100's and the GUI should be better with the G10 since iriver has longer experience on this through its many other MP3 players.

Let's see how this new G10 clone or born-again model, which is released as the Posdata G100 in the US market, turns out. iriver will coming up with its new Wi-Fi MP3 player called the W10 in the near future after dropping this G10 over to Posdata.
