DBS launched Facebook Places and Deals campaign in Asia

In what seems like a pursuit to be one of Asia's most leading edge bank, DBS launched a Facebok Paces and Deals campaign in Asia for Singapore, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Jakarta, and Taipei:

This appears to be a first in Asia and I'm beating myself for not getting on this campaign earlier as this geek was in all of the cities they launched this campaign in the past 4 weeks, with the exception of Jakarta. Argh!

Here's a a quick summary of the campaign and how you can get started:
- The campaign is open to anyone who owns a supported mobile device
Users just have to visit the DBS Facebook fan page to get started
- Users checking in to "DBS Places" will be able to earn points and redeem surprise merchant deals throughout the campaign.
- At the end of the campaign (9th September), the highest point earner of each country will earn a three day two night vacation of their choosing to Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India, Indonesia or Taiwan - talk about incentive!

Although Facebook just announced that it will be terminating their Deals platform, check-in deals (which is what the DBS platform is working with) should be continuing. In any case, it seems that DBS' objective with this campaign and future such campaigns is to "continually evolve the way in which the bank interacts with its customers and merchant partners" so there's good reason to expect more social campaigns based on new technology platforms from DBS in future.

There's still time to join the contest, if you haven't already. This geek is currently in Seoul and will be in Osaka right after which are two cities not included in the campaign, unfortunately. Even if I join the contest, this geek won't be winning any holidays this round but hopefully you can!
