Happy Nowruz, first day of spring

Everyone enjoys Spring! If you've a flu or cold, get well soon. Google updated the logo for the first day of Spring on its official homepage and for Nowruz on the Persian interface. Nowruz marks the first day of Spring and the beginning of the new Iranian year.

The word "Nowruz" is a compound of two Persian words, "now" which has the same meaning as the English word "new" and means new, and the word "ruz" which means both "day" and "time". Literally meaning the "new day", it has nothing to do with religion. All people with different religions celebrate Nowruz.

The logo refers to an Iranian traditional haftsin table that is set while celebrating Nowruz. Haftsin or seven edible things, the names of which in Persian begin with the letter "sin" or "s" . These are symbols for sweetness, health, love, patience, purity, fertility, and good fortune.

But what does Nowruz have to do with this blog? Nowruz is the end of one shopping season and a sign of another.

The one that is ended is mostly for clothes, goldfishes, flowers, and cooking sweets as people wear new garments and somehow renew themselves. The other rising shopping season includes consumer electronics as people trade gifts and buy new gadgets for the new year. There are many who buy their first laptop or first cell phone or digital camera in the new year or try to renew them.

Nowruz holidays are a hot time for the game industry, too. It is about 13 days of vacation, and lots of people buy new game stations and accessories to entertain themselves.

I will update about the consumer behavior and top trends in my country soon.
