Noynoy Aquino for President Twibbon launched for Twitter users

On September 9, which marked the 40th day of the death of former Philippine President and democracy icon Corazon "Cory" Aquino, her son Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III announced that he would continue the fight for democracy by running in the 2010 presidential elections.

Many Filipino Internet users eagerly awaited the senator's announcement, monitoring and sharing the coverage of his press conference on microblogging sites such as Plurk and Twitter and social-networking sites such as Facebook.

Just as Filipino Internet users launched a yellow Twibbon campaign on Twitter for Cory as she battled cancer, so, too, have supporters created a NoyNoy Aquino for President Twibbon that Twitter users can display on their profile pic.

Interestingly, Noynoy has also recently joined the list of politicians with a presence on Twitter. It was his nephew Jiggy Cruz, the eldest grandson of Cory, who helped the senator open a Twitter account.

"Tweeps. Tito Noy has a Twitter Acct but I'm still teaching him. Follow @noynoyaquino =) no picture yet though", Cruz tweeted when the account was launched.

You may follow @noynoyaquino on Twitter.

Again, thank you for an excellent post Joey. We certainly hope people continue to support this cause, and we appreciate the huge part that Filipino internet users have played in Twibbon's success so far!

Best,
